I'm going to just bypass the whole discussion of what constitutes rock, and just give my picks.

The Police
U2
Velvet Underground
Blood Sweat and Tears
Queen
The Beatles
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Coldplay (Just want to make sure that the contemporaries don't get overlooked)

Undertoad 04-16-2006 10:45 PM

Police seconded
The Smiths
The Church

Rock Steady 04-16-2006 10:57 PM

Comtemporaries: The Dresden Dolls

The great little band of the 21st Century.

Kozmique 04-16-2006 11:58 PM

The Kinks
The Who
The Grateful Dead
The Velvet Underground
Adrian Belew
The Handsome Family (not rock exactly but my favorite band nevertheless)

Crimson Ghost 04-17-2006 12:56 AM

Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Type O Negative
White Zombie
AC/DC
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Misfits
Motorhead
Stephen Lynch

Stephen Lynch is a comedic singer, well-known to fans of the "Opie and Anthony" radio show. His songs touch on such diverse subjects as trans-sexuals, abortion, masturbation, anal sex, dead grandparents and bowling legends.

Honorable mention - GG Allin
GG's song "Automatic" is a great "couples" song.

Can i puleeze PML @ Wham....sorry Cyclefrance (I do have their albums though) but I have decided you have good taste for an ...err...old guy :p

Cyclefrance 04-17-2006 04:52 AM

Sorry about the tears down the trouserleg - ur probably right about Wham, altho Georgie boy deserves a mention - and I shouldn't have listed so many, but getting up to 64 looked like a heavy task so there's gonna be a few lightweights in there that would doubtkess disappear quite quickly...

Surprising how quickly groups come and go though - there are quite a few from the 70's, 80's and 90's that I haven't mentioned but can add if necessary because of a shortfall - always steering clear as much as possible from New Romantics that will generally not fit in that well....

PS - at least I remembered INXS:p

Cyclefrance 04-17-2006 05:01 AM

Also want to second for seeding purposes

Beatles
The Who
Rolling Stones
Jimi Hendrix
Aerosmith

DucksNuts 04-17-2006 05:08 AM

I do feel a bit bad that I forgot INXS, but shit happens.
