My coworker lent me Shanghai Noon. It was a goofy western but I liked it.

Nobody liked Deliverance?

It's not really a western, Ali. It's set in the east part of the US and it's set in in the 1970s.

Aliantha 01-21-2009 10:20 PM

It's found under the western genre, and I studied it as a western at uni (years ago).

I know that it's not typical as far as westerns go, but apparently it has the elements including banjos and rednecks. lol

eta: I agree though. I've never thought of it as a western. I just thought that's what the general concensus was. Fits more into the horror/action genre for me.

West is a matter of perspective. ;)

While not a precise science and certainly some grey around the edges of the exact definition, I'm really not seeing anybody fitting Deliverance under the western umbrella. Quigley Down Under on the other hand..

There are a lot of things west of the area in which Deliverance was set. In fact, everything west of Deliverance all the way around the world, to right before Deliverance.

If you were to look at west in strictly a directional capacity, that is.

Although a redneck can technically be from anywhere, the real ones are from the Southeastern U.S., therefore, not a Western (It was also set 100 years too late to be a 'real' Western).

I rented Lonesome Dove and I'll watch it this weekend. I've heard it's pretty good. My wife and daughter are going to Vietnam for a month without me. I'm going to be pretty depressed for a month or so.

This is the second time my wife is taking my daughter from me for a month. She's never been away from our daughter for a single day. She wouldn't let me take our daughter somewhere without her for a day, let alone a month and she has no idea how much it hurts me to be away from her.

Anyway, my parents told me Lonesome Dove is really great and I'm finally getting around to checking it out. I got both DVDs

Have you tried, you know, telling her?
