If you took a warranty problem to the dealer, then dealer must do everything possible to dump that warranty cost on you. This directly traceable to GM that too long has been run by bean counters.

Well, my son had a warranty claim denied by Volkswagen, with a nice volley between the dealer and national. In the end he had to pay out of pocket for the entire repair from a third party shop.

There's been a history of tension between manufacturers and dealers. Manufacturers trying to shave the costs by holding the dealers to minimal flat rates and dealers trying to make up the loss by inflating needed repairs. :(

Boeing waited a month to tell us the info was lost. If they'd recovered the laptop, we'd probably never known.
Everyone got a report from all three credit bureaus and 90 days of credit activity monitoring from one, but we had to opt in for that.

One of the helpful tips in the book they gave me is "never store personal information, such as social security or credit card numbers, on a laptop."

I assume no one ever listens to that one.

Back to the luck thing. I recently let a number of domain names expire on purpose. I got a message from Network Solutions that they resold one of them during my grace period and that I will get a commission of $19.99. Sure enough the check came in the mail. It's small potatoes, but considering I just made money from inaction, that's about as easy as it gets.
