While the limited time allowed for editing a post does keep posters honest as to what they actually posted, it sure makes it hard on somebody who notices a spelling error after that time. I'm careful on spelling. Some who do not need naming, and who spell poorly but who would love to give me a hard time about a misspelling, would need, I think, preemption.
