Yeah. Whale Penis. It had to be the whale penis.
Well my FIRST time discovering The Cellar (c. 1991), I was looking through a listing of ads for Philadelphia-area BBSs. There was one that was an island of text in a sea of misbegotten ASCII & ANSI graphics. "Wow," I thought, "words." Fast forward to 2002. I had not called The Cellar in ages... I just got out of the habit, though I believe it was still around all that time, including a stint as a Telnet service (which I logged on to a couple times). I was doing some searching on the Wayback Machine, and for some reason it occured to me to pop cellar.org in and see what was there. (The last time I had been active, the WWW as we know it today barely existed.) |
Because intelligent people with thoughtful, insightful posts outnumber drivel spouting idgits 2 to 1.

I have a cousin who lives in Canada and he sent an email to me with a heading "How can you tell a guy took this picture". The link brought me here and I looked it over and decided to join.
Soap Operas can't compare to this place. |
I was in search of a forum with a larger more diverse group than the two local ones that I am regularly involved in. Google search. Somehow I got here.

There was a dialup line within my local calling area. I picked The Cellar off a list of BBSes in Delaware Valley Computer User, a free newspaper that I used to pick up at Tower Records.
I have just realized there are a number of anachronisms in my post. I will just add that I had to drive uphill in the snow both ways to get to the Tower Records, where I frequently purchased Cassette Tapes and the occasional book. My car had a manual transmission, no power steering, no air conditioning, and an AM Radio. |
I saw all the love, warmth, welcome, support, guidance, and intelligent conversation that could only lead me to believe I found future epic of boards.
That, and there was a post about http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3..._void/av-1.gif. |
I think it must have been an IOTD via Fark, but the event has sadly been lost in the sands of time.
