Mr. Flibble is not amused.

Obviously I got the reference.
But I didn't get the connection at first. Then I went back to the OP. And really laughed.

Now I have to watch the whole episode. And probably one with Dwayne Dibbley in it too :)

No. It's more of a weiner (less flavorful) with a breadcrumb coating. nasty.

Brit do the battered frankfurters too and they are yummy (when you don't thibk about them too hard). but totally different.

I wouldn't say it's a breadcrumb coating. It's more like a corn bread batter. Ali's picture is about right.

I haven't had one in 15 years, and mostly ate and loved them as a kid in the 70's. They were a culinary delight for the 70's. Food sucked back then.

Before you could get them in stores, Mom made them and called them Pronto pups.
Alton somebody? on food net work had a recipe, that called for cream corn in recipe for batter. Plus a lot of time and work. Sounded good.

Wiki...
Quote:

Sample batter recipe
Ingredients include cornmeal, flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, buttermilk, water, and eggs. For ordinary corn dogs, use a hotdog or wiener. To prepare cornbrats, use boiled wursts that are fully cooked; insert stick and coat each wurst by rolling it in the batter. Hold on to stick. Leftover batter may be kept a few days in the refrigerator.
Creamed corn sounds like a winner. :thumb:

Well it sounds like there's a few different versions. That wiki reference would make up about the right batter for the ones we have here.

You can get sausages that're coated in crumbs and then deepfried here too. We call them crumbed sausages (strangely enough) lol.

Puppet-feeding a hippo to corn dog recipes, in 20-odd posts. WT...?

Maybe they should feed it corn dogs.

TheMercenary 11-27-2008 12:24 PM

Hippo sock puppet.

monster 11-27-2008 08:40 PM

well, none of the ones I've seen here looked like what ali posted -that looked pretty edible! Perhaps the batter in MI is on the flaky side....
