Careful.

Groton has nukes. They can take out the entire Eastern Seaboard if they want.

If there is enough warning to get all the dwellars to safety I'm not sure I see a downside to that Glatt.

To disappoint tw in the manner I've come to enjoy, let the record show I do not have an "aggressive and derogatory" opinion about la Kennedy.

Read one of her books, about the Bill of Rights. I thought it feeble on the Second Amendment, and a fount of information on the Third. All about the one case, which never went to trial, in American jurisprudence where this Amendment was relevant.

That's about it, as far as my opinion goes.

TheMercenary 12-23-2008 04:57 PM

Anyway you look at it she is not qualified to be a Senator. The whole idea that Gov's get to appoint anyone is antiquated and needs to be thrown out. They need a simple 6 week election in every case. The people should make the decision.

xoxoxoBruce 12-23-2008 07:01 PM

What would that cost?

TheMercenary 12-23-2008 07:10 PM

A lot. But it would be democratic, not autocratic as it is now. When one blind dude who became the sittng gov by default hand picks the state senator there is a problem with the system.

xoxoxoBruce 12-23-2008 07:19 PM

Don't be ragging on blind people, they may be reading this thread. :haha:

You have a way of taking a person totally off guard so that I find myself blindsided.

Oh hey!

Pressure mounts over replacement for Clinton

Quote:

Facing one of the most nail-biting choices since the presidential election, David Paterson, the New York governor, has been told he would be guilty of “political malpractice” if he named anyone other than Caroline Kennedy as the state’s new junior representative in the Senate.

Mr Paterson, under intense pressure from some of the country’s most powerful political dynasties as he ponders his decision, has sole discretion to appoint a replacement for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is moving to the state department in Barack Obama’s administration.

Ms Kennedy, scion of the US’s most eminent political family, is credited with persuading Senator Edward Kennedy, her uncle and head of the Kennedy clan, to back Mr Obama’s presidential candidacy. It was a blow to Mrs Clinton’s presidential aspirations but it gives the Kennedys most-favoured status in the new White House.

What was described by New York political observers as Mr Sheekey’s “extraordinary” intervention has now highlighted Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s interest in a outcome that would give New York a hotline to the White House.

“If Caroline is appointed, Barack Obama has to come to New York as his first political trip to . . . support her and, in turn, New York,” Mr. Sheekey told the Daily News.

Sheldon Silver, the New York state assembly’s senior Democrat, last month accused Mr Bloomberg and Mr Sheekey of promoting Ms Kennedy for their own political motives, claiming that, if appointed, she would be beholden to the mayor rather than the governor.

After she injected “you know” more than three dozen times in a single interview, one commentator said: “She’s turned out to be a no-pulse flat-liner with the vim, vigor, enthusiasm and passion of, um, you know, a wet noodle.”

If she gets the job it is another symptom of everything that is broken in the process.

Robinson: Senator by any other name

GEVERYL ROBINSON
Sunday, January 4, 2009

Have you ever researched the meaning of your name?

Because my parents - correction, my maternal grandmother - named me Geveryl, I have always been fascinated by names and their meanings.

I am a firm believer that names dictate personality. There's no scientific proof, but I know during Biblical times, a child's name dictated his or her destiny. Jacob means "supplanter," and true to his name, Jacob tricked his brother out of his rights as the firstborn, then later out of his blessings from his dying father, Isaac.

The Prayer of Jabez (one of my favorite books) deciphers the prayer of a man named Jabez whose name means "born in pain." However, Jabez requested that God basically deliver him from his name so that he might live a life that was free of the pain and grief his name foreshadowed.

The point is that names can be a determining factor in how one's life is lived.

Just ask Caroline Kennedy.

It seems that being born a descendent of Joseph Patrick Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald comes with undeniable privileges. True, the Kennedy family has seen its share of tragedies, but when it relates to politics, the Kennedys have a political dynasty. Now Caroline Kennedy would like to continue that dynasty by being appointed to Hillary Rodham Clinton's seat in the Senate. Let's ponder this, shall we?

Her father, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was a U.S. president. Her uncle, Bobby, was a U.S. senator and a presidential candidate in 1968. Her uncle, Ted, is currently the U.S. senator from Massachusetts. Yet Caroline has never held even the lowliest of political offices and hasn't held a full-time job in years, if ever. If I'm not mistaken, the most controversial issues she's ever tackled head-on are poetry and public service.

But she has the Kennedy name, so the fact that her resume is basically non-existent is irrelevant. According to the Kennedy logic, and apparently the logic of New York Gov. David Paterson, if you have the right name, credentials don't matter.

Unfortunately, that logic is terribly flawed.

Think about it. Would you love to read a book of poetry by Gilbert Shakespeare (William's younger brother), or watch Mamie Ruth play baseball (although, I'm sure Babe would have been proud)?

And how many paintings by Francesco da Vinci (Leonardo's uncle) or Lola Picasso (Pablo's sister) are hanging in galleries across the United States and abroad? How many people wear Marci Klein jeans or would have attended the inauguration of Roger Clinton?

The sad thing is that Caroline Kennedy will probably be given the vacant Senate seat. Then we will continue the disturbing pattern of placing incompetent people in offices they should never hold because of who they are instead of what they can do for our country.

In Romeo and Juliet, (II, ii, 1-2) Juliet utters the unforgettable lines, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet."

The Kennedy's have proven that there is a lot in a name. However, giving Caroline Kennedy Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senate seat doesn't smell just as sweet; it just smells.

You mean that education that you could not get because you were not smart enough to get accepted anywhere? As others have said, TheMercenary's comments - what he is told to believe by Rush Limbaugh - is constant. So we should talk about why his must let him fuck her. Does she also believe that wong is your brain - you dumbfuck? Sorry. Plagiarism. I used a word reserved only for merc. Amazing. He knows words with more than four letters.

This is the Cellar that best represents what TheMercenary really is.
