Yep...that was fun.
We could have had an actual conversation if, after the first time I asked what was so funny, he told me why he (apparently) doesn't like Montana, I could have responded "but yeah he did this and this and Elway sucks so..." and he could have said "but the stats say blah blah blah." I would have loved that...I've debated Joe as Best QB ever before! But no, he's gotta be an ass 24/7. I don't go to his pictures and make fun of his shorts halfway up to his chest. |
I might have more gently pointed out that Montana is a bit dated in terms of wall decorations.
I shouldn't be one to talk, because one of my most beloved (and expensively framed) posters is a movie one-sheet from Backdraft (1991). |
Yabbut, that's why it's on my wacky wall of stuff that doesn't go anywhere else.
I'm just thinking about the hundreds of things in my storage shed I could hang up there...think I'll turn it into a wacky room this spring. :p |
... so I'm at MCI (Kansas City Airport) late one Sunday night -- turning into Monday morning -- to pick up the OL who's plane is ~30 min. late. I'm sitting next to the gate when a 'hidden' door nearby opens up and out walks an airport guy with Joe Montana. The classic double take and I say 'Hi, Joe'. He waves, and then I realize why there is so much noise at another gate and people wearing Chiefs regalia running towards it. Joe quickly heads to the nearest exit and into a waiting car. Must've been ~'94, '95? OL has a Joe Montana pennant on her wall and has never forgiven me for not getting an autograph.

Cool!
He always seemed like such a class act to me; one of the reasons I was such a huge fan. Also, watching the 9'ers back in those days was like watching poetry in motion. Though I come from a die-hard football family those times were when I really gave a shit and had a team. They were just so damn fun to watch. |
1) Joe's tenure in Kansas City with the Chiefs was fucking awesome.
2) While he was here, he was a total class act, active in the community and truly appreciative of the extra years his career got by being a Chief. 3) He's one of the greatest QBs in NFL history. 4) I met Lenny Fucking Dawson when I was in the sixth grade, and I *still* tell the story. People who get football heroes love it. I would make fun of someone who idolized Michael Vick. I would ridicule someone who idolized Pacman. Someone idolizes Joe, I say, "Fuckin' A, babe." Fuckin' A, Shawnee. |
Awesome, elspode. :)
Funny thing, KC was always kind of my second team anyway...then Joe went there. And I liked Schottenheimer. |
Maybe this is a good time for me to mention I have no idea who joe montana is, although I'm pretty sure he is no relation to hanna montana. And while I'm at it, I will say that I've never watched even a 1/4 of a football game.
I do know there are quarters, but that's about it. So, yeah. Joe Montana poster? Sure, ride that rocket. |
lmao
