This is a confusing statement. You are looking at Toronto (Ontario) or 3000miles WEST of there to the Vancouver (BC) area? Or both??

If you are looking to work, I would suggest a larger city, if you are looking to have a holiday, I would suggest a smaller city perhaps. What do you expect to gain for the experience? Are you looking for a relaxing area, to meet new people, see the sights, and enjoy the summer, or are you looking for a city to entertain you, stay busy, spend lots of money etc... Also where are you going to stay: rent? hotel? friends already in these 2 cities? camp? You will have to take into account the rental vacancies, which in some places (like Kelowna BC) are very very few and far between.

The legal drinking age is 19 in both provinces (BC and Ontario), with Alberta having a legal age of 18. All places will expect you to provide 2 pieces of ID to purchase booze and smokes. One of those will have to have a picture and signature. Your passport will do, but make sure your picture is current... I have turned away many people from my store because their passport picture was of them at 3.

Both cities you have mentioned have the good sides and the bad sides, both have lots to do to keep you entertained. Both have WAAAYYYY more people than I like. Both have great little towns less than 2-3 hour drives away. The Canadian shield in Ontario is very pretty, with lakes and trees. The mountains are spectacular and can be seen from Vancouver, as well as the ocean and small islands to investigate as well.

As for jobs in tourists towns, such as Banff, Whistler etc... it depends on the money you expect... Many of the hotels need extra employees during peak seasons, as well as any retail/sightseeing places.

Toronto. You can't go wrong in Toronto in the summer.

But I haven't been to Vancouver so can't help you there.

In the Philly area, the summer tradition is to go "downtheshore", the term used to denote the annual trip to the New Jersey beaches. Go to a place like Wildwood (extreme southern NJ beach) for the Boardwalk, jobs, food and weirdo-watching. Oh yeah, picking up teens (I was a teen once and did this, not anymore) for casual sex (you're of that age group, right?) and partying. Either gender, as your preference demands.

Yea, we did that too. I spent quite a few years in central jersey in the mid 70's. We went to the shore every year. Asbury Park was the most popular destination.

OMG - you two are total tourists - get it right - NJ doesn't have a beache - It has the shore - sheesh!

Even in the 70's it was pretty nasty. We really just went for the boardwalk. It was like a reddernecked version of Myrtle Beach.

I am from Canada, specifically Ontario. I would say Ottawa but that's if you want a cleaner place than Toronto. Low crime rate in Toronto? Haha now that's funny! Toronto is nice but busy and not particularly clean. However Ottawa is like a cleaner, cooler Toronto and no I am not from Ottawa. There are some really cool outdoor markets and lots of really nice pubs with live music. There are also some neat martini bars and clubs. The food is amazing :) You are right next to the Quebec border too. The hotels are nice (at least the ones I've been to). My sister lived there for a while and I loved coming to visit her. I would take Ottawa any day over Toronto. You better be prepared to dress up big time if you are going out in Toronto. I have a gf who lives there and it's ridiculous the way you have to dress up to go out to a club! Anyhoo, that's JMO. Btw Vancouver is very nice and another good choice but be prepared for the rain. They also have a lot of markets, music and fun as well as beautiful scenery.

I have been to Ottawa and can vouch.

Do never Canada. It's a gateway nation, and leads to Brazilling in public, and before you know it, you think nothing of doing a little Ecuador in sleazy back alleys with prostitutes and congressmen...Then, one day, they find you dead with a syringe full of Holland still jammed in your arm.

Do never Canada. Not even once.

Ironically, I applied to study in Canada earlier this year, and since then have also applied to teach in Ecuador and do a PhD course in Holland.

Really and honestly. I don't think Brazil ever came up, apart from those Brazil nuts I had last week...
