Is this like all the "don't buy gasoline on a certain day" movements where people will just buy it a day earlier or later and have no effect on anything?

Clodfobble 03-27-2009 11:13 PM

I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to bathe the kids in pitch darkness. There's something unsafe about that... I'm sure of it...

DanaC 03-28-2009 07:55 AM

Nah. It'll be reet, Clod. Job's a good'un.

[northern to English translation service: Nah. Go ahead, Clod, it'll be fine, you'll see.]

[eta] that's actually a phrase a I use a lot. Often it gets cut down to: Be reet. Job's a goodun.

I plan to turn all the lights on, crank up the ipod dock, turn all the tvs on etc

why? because I'm a rebel.

actually, I'll most likely be driving home about that time.

Well, now I understand Brass in Pocket by the Pretenders. I found a site where everybody was speculating what different parts of it mean, and finally someone who knew what they were talking about chimed in:

Skank is a dance, a way of moving.
I'm from the north of England. These are pretty common terms where I come from.

Thanks Dana! I always wondered but never thought to look it up before.

Oh, no, the website encourages you to take videos of the event and upload them to Youtube, live-blog the event, etc.

The power to do all that = yeeah, about 10 compact fluorescents for an hour...

It's like when they held the global warming summit in Bali... thus ensuring that almost every attendee and the press would fly halfway around the world on private jets...

yeah--that actually came from somewhere else--a news commentary, I think. I was surprised too, to go on the website and find they were recommending "blog about your hour." I'm thinking that . . . doesn't make sense. (scratches head)

I think it's a cool idea, so I will do it. My lights at the very least.

I can still read on my iPhone . . . :3eye:

I've enjoyed reading this thread, even though I have nothing much to add; see my title. Lots of cute doggies though.

EDIT: I meant to put this in the doggie thread --- how did it get here?

:)

I think you mean 'Engrish'

I'll see your bet and raise you the following:
  • Blast the AC with all external doors open, plus run the gas fireplaces to keep from freezing to death.
  • Run full loads in the dishwasher, washer machine, and dryer.
  • Swap out all Energy Star compact fluorescent light bulbs with high wattage incandescent bulbs just for this one hour...and let 'em burn baby!
  • Run splinklers (water is a resource too!). Also run all of the hot water in faucets to force hot water heaters to run full steam.
  • Let all three cars idle in the driveway (not too wise to do this in the garage) to waste gas and add back pollutants to the environment that are saved by everyone else.
  • Burn garbage in 55 gallon drum.
  • Crank up home theater system to Tom Petty's Southern Accents album and turn on speakers for all rooms, plus back porch.
  • Go to office 1 hour before and turn on all lights on all 10 floors.
Of course I'm gonna regret the spike to my electric & gas bill...

xoxoxoBruce 03-28-2009 01:55 PM

Frame that bill... your great grandchildren will have a great story about Great Grandpa Yznhymr being one of the last cantankerous free thinkers, a true American, when they take it to the Antiques Road Show. :haha:

Stormieweather 03-28-2009 01:58 PM

Lol, Yzn!

I will turn off my lights and tv, but I have a scheduled event this evening in one of my online games. So computers stay on.

driving home with no lights might cause a problem...

sugarpop 03-28-2009 07:37 PM

All the lights are off, but my sister refuses to turn off the tv. I'm on my laptop.

BrianR 03-29-2009 10:17 AM

We were encouraged to stop idling for the hour. I did, just to be contrary. And I didn't need to, either. But I did notice they didn't tell us to pull over and stop driving for an hour. Hmmmmmm.....
