No less true than all the drug ads on tv.... probably didn't list a bunch of unpleasant side effects either.

My Honey bill has skyrocketed. You don't even want to know the copay on that.

Let's just say those bees play for keeps...

Powerful stuff, innit? We use stevia drops to sweeten it for the kids, so it doesn't add to the quantity they have to swallow. It works out to 320 doses for about $18, so it's cheaper than the honey too.

Go figure.

So, umm....what do you mean by freebasing the honey vinegar mix? Is it just for heartburn problems and what other problems does it help? Asking because I have digestive problems too.:D

Clodfobble 02-23-2010 06:45 PM

Apple cider vinegar. 1-2 Tablespoons a day. The honey is to help mask the incredibly strong taste (unless maybe nutkin is getting some other benefit from the honey, but usually it's just for taste.) It's got a very basic pH, so it's good for acidic conditions like reflux, among others.

And before any self-righteous "modern medicine" folks get all riled, it's standard operating procedure in hospitals to give c-section patients a shot of apple cider vinegar immediately before the procedure begins so they don't happen to start refluxing and vomiting in the middle of surgery.

@Tulip: I started this stuff when I had a bad sore throat and my voice teacher told me to drink it. It helped my throat a lot and then I noticed that my heartburn went away. I kept drinking it because after a week I really started liking it a lot. I stopped drinking coffee because I just lost me taste for it. I also stopped drinking wine at night for the same reason.

I feel a lot better lately generally, but I hesitate to ascribe it all to honey/vinegar. quittign caffeine and alcohol might have a tiny bit to do with feeling better.

It should be Brewed cider vinegar, not distilled. Bragg's is one very good brand, there may be others I don't know.

I drink two to three quarts of this over the course of the day.

Clodfobble 02-23-2010 09:26 PM

Wait wait wait--two to three quarts of the vinegar, plus some amount of honey?! Or 2-3 quarts of honey-vinegar mixture?

Is that because it tastes so bad going down, your subconscious says, I'm not bringing THAT back up? :haha:

2-3 quarts of the mixture. so, about 2/3 C vinegar a day. I'm wondering if I should be worrying about my teeth dissolving?

glatt 02-24-2010 11:03 AM

What is the recipe for this stuff?

If you are drinking 2-3 quarts of a honey/vinegar mixture, and only two thirds of a cup of that mixture is vinegar, that leaves a couple quarts of honey to make up the rest. That can't be right. I'm missing something.

Sounds like squirell's also using water to dilute. For the kids, we figure it's better to rip the bandaid off and just give them a straight shot. Also, as a side note, I realized I said this wrong:

The pH of the vinegar itself is acidic. What it does is attach and remove hydrogen ions in the stomach, with the end result of raising (alkalizing) your stomach's pH. Lemons do a similar thing, though they too are acidic.

I hope that's a shot as in "I'll have a shot and a beer", not a shot as in "I got a flu shot".

Thanks, I never could figure out how drinking an acid could relieve acid indigestion.

Yeah, I dilute it as a hot beverage. It's like crack. Don't start.

I do 2 or 3 Tbs Vinegar plus 2 or 3 Tbs Honey, and about 24-36 oz hot water. Stir it up and sip at it.

It is, and the fuckers usually don't even tell you what it is. The first time they just handed me the little paper cup and said, "Drink this fast."

Pete Zicato 02-24-2010 04:16 PM

Can't be as bad as the stuff they make you drink for an upper-GI/small bowel series. It's like drinking chalk.

Comes out that way too.
