I thought there was a recent quake in California?
I'm part of a John Barrowman email forum (blush) and there are plenty of Merkins on there. Someone in the area posted that there had been a recent quake and wondered if JB would have felt it (currently with you filming Desperate Housewives).

Quick ETA - sorry, it's already been referenced in this thread.

Apparently, we have not had more quakes than usual.

Quote:

Yesterday, a 6.9-magnitude quake struck Qinghai, China, resulting in an estimated 400 dead and 10,000 injured. One week before that, a 7.7 tremor hit Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Two days before that, a 7.2 shook Baja, Mexico. At the end of February, Chile shuddered under an 8.8 earthquake, little over a month after a 7.0 crumbled Haiti and killed nearly 230,000. With such a list, 2010 appears to be the year of the apocalypse or, at the very least, unnaturally active for these natural disasters.

Not according to the United States Geological Society and other experts. They say we’re not getting more quakes than usual, we’re just paying more attention. Even earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater have remained fairly constant throughout history: based on records since about 1900, approximately 17 major earthquakes, ranging from 7.0 to 7.9, and one “great” earthquake—at 8.0 magnitude or above—are expected in any given year. Not that such statistics should be taken lightly; even a slight shift of 1.0 magnitude higher on the seismic scale creates 10 times more ground motion and releases about 32 times more energy—the best indicator of the destructive power of an earthquake. So far for 2010, the 8.8 giant in Chile places into the “great” category, and five major tremors of a 7.0 magnitude or more have been recorded.

Add in the Iceland volcano eruption, and you get a premeditated program for the destruction of the earth. It's a conspiracy by the racists.

Bwaaahahaaaahaaaa!

ZenGum 04-16-2010 07:37 PM

Wow. Even lil' old Adelaide had a tremble last night. Only 3.8 richters, with the epicentre about 50 km away, but I could still hear and feel it.

Okay, NOW we know who to blame!

Quote:

Women who dress provocatively and tempt people into promiscuity are to blame for earthquakes, a leading Iranian hard-line cleric has apparently said.

The prayer leader, Hojatoleslam Kazim Sadeghi, says women and girls who "don't dress appropriately" spread "promiscuity in society" . . . "When promiscuity spreads, earthquakes increase," he says in a video posted Monday on YouTube, apparently of him leading Friday prayers in Tehran, Iran, last week. "There is no way other than taking refuge in religion and adapting ourselves to Islamic behavior," he adds in the video.

That was funny as hell. Extremists....

Cloud 04-20-2010 06:33 PM

funny unless you are one of his constituents, who are relying on this information for their world view. Allah forbid they spread the word about, you know -- plate tectonics.

Bruce 9012 04-20-2010 08:24 PM

Tectonics. Yes the earth is only a few thousand years old, said the dinosaur. Sometimes I get the feeling that the earth is the Being. We are the parasites on It's back..somtimes.

apparently love DOES make the world go 'round!

I whole-heartedly agree. These statements are accurate. This completely explains the earthquakes even prior to human terrestrial life forms.

See, the earth knew that sluts were coming and decided to riot before human existence (earthquakes) shifting plates etc.... And now that the promiscuous have taken over, the continents will split again because of the whoo- ors. :D

Completely logical. Rational. Do not argue my enhanced world-view. ;)

ZenGum 04-21-2010 07:44 AM

What a wonderous thing, to have a man of learning amongst us. Tell me again how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes.

Spexxvet 04-21-2010 07:49 AM

I'm sure the Westboro Baptist Church is blaming the gays.

I blame non-sinners. They bring down every party.
