If you have to bang on the celery you're doing it wrong....
Meh - works better with a komkommer anyway.

I do not put pickles up my alley or indeed any in other orifice! How dare you?!

When i was a kid I used to wake up on Summer mornings with my eyes puffed and swollen shut. I used to lie down with a slice of cucumber over each eye and it would soothe and bring down the swelling really fast.

A cuke halfway up the left nostril would look odd...

This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago as part of their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and fanciful ways to solve common problems.

Wow, it's like the cucumber is the 'duct tape' of vegetables.

I guess this was due to excema?

I'll admit (without wanting to rub it in) when I was a child I would bounce out of bed ready to face the world.

When I was a teen I got up at 06.30 on weekdays to avoid my bro eating his 2 hour breakfast; his chewing and slurping made me feel physically ill, but it was the only meal of the day he ate without a row so Mum indulged him.

On teen weekends I stayed in bed til 10.00, which was unprecedented in our house, but I had a waitressing job that finished at midnight. Then I bounced out of bed and ate free pizza for brekkers.

These days I need the komkommer.
But hey, Diz would only think it was a game and flick it off my face anyway.

But can you make a wallet from it?

i would guess hayfever. i used to find the cucumber soothing for my hayfever eyes too, but unfortunately the juice irritated my eczema. Still does. I love to eat cucumber, but I have to do it all in one go or the juice that leaks out as I bite irritates my lips (;))

Hmmm. Cut strips of the skin, dry, and weave the strips into a wallet.

Anyway, this thread has inspired me to try eating them again. I also picked up some intense balsamic vinegar at the Christmas Tree store that's something like %6 acidic.

Marinate the cuke slices in wine and vinegar. I'd like to try overnight but with that much acidity I wonder if I would have mush the next day.
