Never had Shoneys here. We can't even stop Burger King and Ponderosa from shutting down.
|
Nope.
No Shoneys, no IHOP, no Dennys, no White City, no Taco Bell etc etc etc We got McDonalds, Burger King and KFC. Oh and Wendys And Pizza Hut and Dominos. And Subway. I don't think you guys export the good stuff. We did have Wimpy though. Which Bill Bryson found highly amusing in its posturing as an American style burger bar which got it all wrong. It had table service on proper plates with knives and forks, and vinegar on the tables (McDonalds caused a stir when they opened - what, no vinegar on my chips?!" But they did serve Coke Floats and Knickerbocker Glories. Which were the height of sophistication to a child who'd only ever eaten out in Woolworth's Cafe before. And GBK. Which I think is Antipodean. Our antipodes of course, not yours. |
Shoney's reminds me of my grandparents. I think they got grits and Sanka there...
I'd kill any of you for a local Denny's. |

Anyone else ever eaten at a King's Table? (buffet-style place) |
Grits are like rice, just something to carry better tasting stuff to your mouth.
|
There used to be a Shoney's in Essington. Took the family there once for Sunday brunch buffet. I thought it sucked. Bruce, did ou ever eat there? It might have been right next to the Red Roof Inn.
|
Nope, I've only been to the one in Reading (many years ago) and ones in the south.

No, you're cool Buster. I've seen Bob's, Shoney's, and Abdow's Big Boys.

I take a less rigid approach about these things -- for I still like their Ultimate Omelette. We lived for some years in Annapolis. The Annapolis Denny's was the one that refused to serve that group of black FBI men one night, and brother did they find trouble. There was something wrong about that Denny's somehow anyway... the place never felt like it had any pride. I've never run across another that had such a bad vibe. X-Lydia's not a burger fiend, either. Her favorite fast foot joint is Wendy's, or Chick-fil-A. |
