getting my thyroid issue fixed seems to be doing it for me...10lbs in 2months!
small amount of exercise, definitely not dieting, lol.

I have recently increased the speed of my jog/runs from 4 and 4.5 to 5 and 5.5 and sometimes 6, because I noticed my endurance improved. I'm pretty jealous of your 7lb weight loss! I'm figuring that being middle aged (48) and post menopausal is working against me.

I suck at monitoring mine too, was talked into the stress test thing by my trainer. I do really long intervals too, so I'm definitely not going high enough with the heart rate (I'm supposed to be at 180 something while I'm up there, fuck that) - I'm also not training for a marathon, just trying to get some exercise while watching Law & Order. I walk uphill on treadmill, set as uphill as it will go (15); 3.9 for 4 minutes then 4.2 for 6 minutes, for an hour. About twice a week I do an extra 15-30 minutes at a steady 4.
The machine says I burn about 850 calories an hour but I don't set my age/weight so it's actually a little less.

Hey morty, that's awesome!

What was wrong with your thyroid? And how did you know to have it checked?

I'm going to start adding inclines to my workouts again - I was doing it when I first started but it was really tough to keep up. Now I may be better able to handle it. I wish I could watch TV at the same time, but we have At&t u-verse now and the treadmill interferes with the signal. So I have to make do with music - if it wasn't for the intervals I don't think I could keep it up - its mind numbing..

I have to have the right music, or i feel like I'm lagging. I like to be able to adjust my stride to the timing of the song.

I have a playlist on my ipod just for the treadmill

Pico and ME 07-12-2010 08:10 PM

I listen to the radio...there's no way I could listen to the same play-list over and over again.

Clodfobble 07-12-2010 10:20 PM

Are you talking about multiple stations, Pico? Because I'd be willing to bet most radio stations have a shorter playlist than LJ's ipod.

Pandora via my blackberry is good too.... I have a station called Cake radio....i get a lot of Cake, Beck, RHCP, Johnny Cash, and Bass heavy bands.

Fewer hours staring at monitor (read cellar) and tending to chores in your garden.

I mix it up between two local stations, but you're right they do repeat a lot of songs. However, I never really know whats coming next. I thinks its about time I get myself an ipod. I tried looking for a shelf system a while back and its gotten to the point where some of them don't even play Cd's anymore - or if they do, just one. But they do have ipod ports. The times have really changed since I bought my JVC system in '98.

Clodfobble 07-13-2010 02:37 PM

If you don't want to know what's coming next, just use the shuffle function. I would never want to listen to my music in order anyway, I like being surprised by stuff I haven't heard in ages.

I have lost 25 and a half pound since January having gained an obscene amount of fat after (FUCK) cancer & chemo and compensating with cake & chocolate & ice cream etc.

Weightwatchers is the basis on 19 points then walking treadmill x4 weekly 4.4-6.0 over twelve mins with incline, then 'Kilimanjaro' on recline bike again over ten - twelve mins then a variety of weights machines (not sure of their names!). The one working hamstrings, then glutes, then fixed row, then shoulder lifts, all with increasing by small amounts of weight weekly.

I'm having a bionic knee fitted in September (Osteo-Arthritis) so can't do much which involves weightbearing but am very keen to strengthen the muscles involved in post-op progress. Also swimming. LOVE IT especially now I have a waterproof MP3 (The Dolphin) and I just roll out the lengths to music.

Anybody have any extra suggestions, oh I'm 63 now and bursting with life, energy, smugness!!
