This let me recalled those days back to my college life. I have 5 bikes stolen altogether.....

Hopefully when you get home and are not under any time pressure you will find your bike has fallen down on it's side and is lurking behind the snowblower, or that old gas grill you've been meaning to throw away but never seem to get around to.

You checked in the fridge next to the place where you always drop your keys by accident when you're putting the milk in, didn't you?

Often someone will steal a bike only because he needs a ride. Then leave it in the street abandoned. Cop houses have plenty of bicycles abandoned this way. A place to look.

Well, they stole my bicycle twice. Caught them with the bike both times. Cops clearly knew he stole it. And refused to prosecute. Cost of prosecution is higher than the price of a bike.

In NYC, even murder rates were reduced when such crimes were prosecuted. Well documented even in a recent issue of Scientific American. The difference between an MBA trained law enforcement officer and one who comes from where the work gets done.

In many jurisdictions, it is legal to steal a bike because laws are not enforced.

It's still illegal. The police are just too busy busting people for having a quarter-ounce of weed.

And it depends on the bike. Friend of mine had a $10K road bike.

Only person who ever stole that, though was his crack ho girlfriend, after he had learned to lock up the money and remaining jewelry.

Doesn't homeowner insurance cover? It did when my very nice bike was stolen from the city pool when I was a kid.

Of course, monster didn't have time to go through the rigamarole to get a new bike in time, but won't she be recompensed?

Sorry to hear about your bike, Monster. That really sucks when you realize the thief was just lurking outside to find an opportunity to steal your stuff. I hope you get your bike back in one piece. Have a great vacation!
