Dead Hobo. My first, circa 1982.

I don't have many really old things. I had to be pretty ruthless about stuff when I was moving into my teeny tiny hobbit house.

Best I can do is my bedside table. It's actually not a table, but my bed is quite low down, so it kind of works. It's a stool. Very plain looking, rectangular wooden top, made from cut down planks of wood from a packing crate (tea I think) with sturdy legs from some long dead piece of furniture, twisted slightly in an almost spindle style.

It was Nan's. My Grandad made it for her when she was pregnant with their first kid (late 1930s). It was so she had something she could sit on to do some of the household tasks like peeling potatoes or shelling peas, or separating off metal caps from whatever it was they were connected to, which she did as piece work for extra cash.

I have a college sweatshirt that has the actual name of the college I went to, as opposed to a the name that changed just before graduation.

I have my high school graduation class tee shirt (has the names of everyone in the class on it).

I ditched, er, donated a lot of the "collection" when I last moved, when I got rid of some aged 1980s painters pants and color block sweaters.

Does Mr. Tiger, my childhood stuffed animal count?

I have a Terry Crisp Flyers jersey, which dates from the mid-seventies. It's lasted so long because it's made from some synthetic which will never biodegrade.

I have an oil painting, painted by my grandmother in the 1970's. I have a crocheted hanger by the very same person too.

I have a Dennis the Menace sweater that has to be 25 years old. I wear it when I'm cold and sick.

monster 08-17-2011 12:34 PM

a few other things from that era too, that I don't wear any more. But I'm a pack rat.

I have a pair of green Adidas hemp sneakers that I think are circa 1980-83 or so. I know I am at least the third owner of them, perhaps more. They have fantastic arch support and are extremely flexible, neither of which are true of modern adidas. They are almost completely fallen apart by now, but I use them as lab shoes. I act like it's because it doesn't matter if I spill chemicals on them, but really it's because I can't get away with wearing such ratty things at any other time, and I would be very sad if I actually spilled chemicals on them. I have tried for years to find equivalent replacements, and/or to get them repaired/resoled, but no luck.

Off the top of my head, I have a vintage 1973-4 Scooby-Doo Halloween costume. Plastic pants, shirt, and Scoobyface. In the original box.

And several large pieces of flint. No, not Flint! I used to have a flintlock rifle, and made my own flints.

Also some large pieces of lint.

I have a tie from 1982. Probably my oldest clothing still in the closet and not a trunk somewhere.

The oldest thing though, is a Kodak Duaflex 4, from around 1957.

One pair black synthetic tracksuit pants, issued by a certain multinational corporation to pizza delivery drivers around 1990, still doing service in their own right or as a thermal layer beneath other pants in winter.

The wardrobe itself is second hand, looks to be Queen Anne, circa 1910.

I have this sleeping bag, really old, don't remember when, probably from the late 70's. My mom won't let me throw it out.

Oh, well if we're gonna include cameras and such in the list...
