Doesn't make it right.

This is kinda topical to my family at the moment. My Aunt is very ill (as in cancer ill) and in order to get her son into an assisted living situation, she basically has to say that she can't care for him anymore at all, and turn him over to the state, which effectively means, she will no longer have any control over how he lives, even if she survives long term. This has been really hard for her to do but she really doesn't have any choice.
My Aunt has had a pretty tragic life. Some things just aren't fair. |

Some friends of mine are going through a similar struggle. They want to keep caring for their son, but are financially unable to do so. They have talked to someone at the state and are trying to work it so that they give up rights to him, and then the state turns right around and chooses them as his new foster parents. But they're so terrified of that interim where the state might suddenly decide to put him somewhere else instead and there would be nothing they could do about it.

That is so sad. Something I can't even imagine.
I feel for your family, Ali...and your friends, Clod. :( |
