thanks glatt.

I didn't care for the screengrab for the title screen of the video. I didn't watch it either. looks very sad. I got plenty already, thanks.

Sad, but I feel about this the same way I feel about a lot of stuff on America's Funniest Home Videos ... put down the damn camera and attend to the situation. Cuddle the living one and bury the dead one, for goodness' sake. Not everything belongs on youtube.

Yes! This. Unless you're a reporter in a disaster zone, or you're shooting a nature video, surely stepping in to help is the more natural response.

So true. Bosco looked after me so well while I was laid up with a bad cold last week. Lots of snuggles, peering at me all worried-like and occasionally poking me with his paw...somebody cared! :)

(I didn't watch the video, so if these are things the cat did on there, sorry all.)

I watched about 40 seconds and couldn't take any more. Yes, I anthropomorphised.

Gravdigr 01-06-2012 04:20 PM

No way I'm watching it now...Like V said, I got enough feel bad in my life, I don't need to go looking for more.

Elspode 01-13-2012 01:06 AM

Late to the show, as always. That was about the saddest fucking thing I've ever seen...that didn't involve me at the bedside of a dying friend, relative, or loved one.

Fuck. Just...fuck.

I guess there is something fundamentally different about me. The video didn't bother me a bit. It's not like I work with dead cats all day and I'm desensitized to it. If they were my cats, it would probably be different. But not by a whole lot. Animals die. It happens. I hope this doesn't mean I'm a sociopath.

DanaC 01-13-2012 07:57 AM

It's not the death of the animal that's upsetting. It's the distress of the other cat.

Nah. You're good. People have different reactions to stuff.

True dat.

And at different times. At another point in time I might have been able to watch that. It'd be sad to see, but it wouldn't necessarily floor me. Right now though I can't even look at the picture.

I'm with anonymous on this one. First of all I don't buy the projection of human attributes to this cat. Who knows what the other cat was thinking (If cats can think) or doing?

Maybe the cat was checking to see if the other cat had a wallet on him and was going to take the cash and buy some Mad Dog 20/20. Maybe he was just getting a little workout kneading the other cat's squishy body. Maybe it's a cat masseur giving the other cat one of the most intense massages of it's life. They're cats. They aren't human. They would quickly eat their devoted masters if they had half a need to.

It's all good that it makes you sad and all but it's the story you are telling yourself with your mind, not what the caption of the video says.

Not the mention the schmaltzy music!

infinite monkey 01-13-2012 01:57 PM

"I wish I could turn and live with the animals, they are so placid and self-contain'd."

Walt Whitman

And you don't know what the cat may or may not be feeling. Human attibutes, he haz none? Lucky cat! And we would eat our cats or fellow man if we had half a need to, too.

So I'll continue to believe that animals feel things. Look to the elephants if you are not sure. Maybe this makes me sentimental idiotic fool, but I'm at least erring in the less harmful direction.

Be nicer to yourself and stop calling yourself such unkind names.

And sit up straight. And stop tracking mud across my nice clean floors.
