Well they did get in bed KFC and supposedly their executive salaries are high compared to other charities. I think their ethical priorities are being questioned by almost everyone right now.

Lamplighter 02-03-2012 12:58 PM

See, it's another senior moment

I'm glad they reversed their DeFetus attitude.

Darn, when I heard that one of their top execs had resigned, I thought it was Handel, who deserves to be shown (thrown) the door for this stupid stunt.

As usual, it's the ethical person who leaves in protest, leaving the snakes in charge.

Lamplighter 02-07-2012 05:56 PM

TV talking heads are reporting that Karen Handel has left Komen organization.

BigV 02-07-2012 06:09 PM

Yes, I heard that this morning as well. And that she'd left in a huff over the incredibly exaggerated and mistaken assumptions about the Komen Foundation's motives, still proclaiming that they were in no way political.

a duck walking, duck quacking, pink be-ribbonned horse of a different color, or something. Not political? Sure, honey, sure.

infinite monkey 02-07-2012 06:13 PM

She keeps it up and she can run for president in 2016. ;)

Handel:
Quote:

"I resigned because it was clear that all of this had gotten to a point
where ... I was too much of a focal point," Handel added. "I really felt
I had a responsibility to step aside so they could refocus on their mission."
In her resignation letter to Brinker, Handel acknowledged her role in developing the strategy
but denied it was based on political ideology, saying:
Quote:

"Our decision was the best one for Komen's future and the women we serve."
Komen insiders say Handel spent months pushing the plan to shift the
organization's grant strategy, leading the board to decide to cut off funding for 17
of the 19 Planned Parenthood affiliates in December.

You know what else is pretty “new” around Komen?
Its senior vice president of public policy, Karen Handel.
During the Sarah Palin-endorsed, Tea Party favorite’s 2010 campaign
for governor of Georgia, Handel declared,
“I do not support the mission of Planned Parenthood,”
making clear that she “strongly supports” laws prohibiting
“the use of taxpayer funds for abortions or abortion-related services.”
She did, however, emphasize that she “strongly support(s)
the noble work of crisis-pregnancy centers.”

Noble work? I don't think so. I'd mistakenly went to one of those crisis-pregnancy centers when I was in high school. I can say first-hand, there's nothing noble about creepy, self-righteous nuts pretending to be medical professionals, and showing teenagers photos of bloody fetuses. As I got up and walked out with my then-boyfriend, the woman stopped him and begged "Please don't do this!" What an all-around, offensive experience that was.

That is the suck! Sounds about what I'd expected. You can name anything pretty names, don't make it so. Grrrrrr.

Thanks for pointing that out, blue.

bluecuracao 02-07-2012 07:04 PM

Thank goodness that Handel bee-yotch is out. I wonder where she wanted to re-directed the funding she cut off from Planned Parenthood...hopefully not the bogus crisis centers, ugh.

Is that codespeak for 'I resigned five minutes before they said they would fire my ass'.

First she would have to go rescue some vegetable in Florida - a prerequisite for the 'right' credentials.
