It's a cool thing. After reading the article, I was probably wrong about the teacher.

Thanks for sharing it, diggr.

From our perspective, adding orchestral instrumentation to our previous understanding of Zeppelin is a mind-boggling change and hearing any rendition of it reminds us of all that. To them, they have probably heard no other Zeppelin before so this is just "Greensleeves" level of difficulty, which is to say, well above average for the age. But it will teach them what is good so that when they reach the age where they can start to have discerning taste, it will be a reference point for them.

If I recall correctly, for me, puberty had some weird sort of brain-clarifying connection to oh suddenly this song is good and that one is not, not just because someone else said so, but because I heard it and figured that out and it truly had meaning for me.

i could write that sentence way better

My son has great taste in music. He always has. From like 5. My daughter, not so much. A lot not so much.

Nature or nurture?

He has an aptitude for appreciating what dad likes. There's something to that. (How old is he currently, again?)

I listened to Carmen when I was 5. Carmen has some great melodies. I also liked the children's record about science. It had some great melodies. I don't think I could rank one above the other. But when you're 5 you like melody.

My 12 y.o. son is digging Carmen, thanks to Gilligan's Island.

Spencer is 16.5 17 in August. I'm pretty sure jinx had as much or more to do with his taste as did I. I just remember listening to a mix cd he and jinx made (he picked the songs, jinx did the computer work) for a car ride to Old Forge... It had songs like Nothing Else Matters, and Lighting Crashes.... I wish I still had that disc...

I find that to be entirely acceptable. I'd like to own that. where can I procure it?

Only 24 bucks at American Tee Shirt. But it's currently not available.

I can't find one of those on Amazon either, but here is a similar tapestry:
