Doorbell camera video of firefighters trying to save a home in Fort McMurray.

Impressive, the amount of work they put into that.

I guess it started from embers on the roof.

Fire apparently started underneath the porch. It used the right side column to get into an attic space above the porch. Then spread out to eventually pop through the roof.

Firemen first attacked obvious fire underneath. Then discovered a fire popping out of the roof. Eventually discovered how fire got above the porch. Chopped a hole into that column to kill that fire. Then pulled the entire porch ceiling down to confirm it had not spread into the house.

Firemen were careful to not be underneath that roof if not absolutely necessary.

How does a fire start underneath the house when nothing around it is burning? The fire could have traveled down the post also.

What is this gravity of which you speak?
You are too emotional. Stop making sense.

Door bell camera demonstrates why so many adjacent houses burned while others in the same neighborhood remain intact. Those embers would start fires even a mile away. In this case, it may have gotten under the porch where leaves had collected. First pictures show smoke only coming out from under the porch.

Apparently columns were constructed without a fire stop (ie sheet rock) inside.

Two minutes into the evacuation, which couldn't start until the RCMP gave the signal and had a helicopter in the air, gets scary with falling embers and traffic jammed...

It's like getting out of a parking lot after a concert, except with a wildfire chasing you.

If you're buying a bike, be careful of Canadian Craig's list...

What is the state of this fire?

glatt 05-28-2016 09:46 AM

They call them provinces up there, not states.
