Thank you all for the good wishes. We will be hearing from the Doctor this morning. I hope that she can have her surgery today.

Spexxvet 09-19-2016 07:35 AM

Good luck, Keryx! The sooner the surgery is done, the better the results

She does not have a detached retina. She has Diabetic Retinopathy real bad, so we are going to deal with the diabetes. She has a physical Friday, then we will know more. Thanks for all of your good thoughts and prayers while we go thru this.

Well...shit.

My vision is not what it used to be, and I'm preeeety sure I'm diabetic.

May be time for an eye exam. I assume Diabetic Retinopathy would scream "Hey look at me! Hey over here!" in a regular ol' eye exam?

Spexxvet 09-20-2016 12:04 PM

Diabetic retinopathy is leading cause of blindness in US adults.

Do what the doctor says, and get examined annually or more frequently

Undertoad 09-20-2016 12:07 PM

uh that reminds me Spexx is your office optometrist or opthalmologist.

(now that my blood sugars are absolutely normal)

(thank goodness mine started at the toes)

keryx 09-20-2016 03:40 PM

Thanks all. I'm getting treatment for my retinopathy and my diabetes.
What the optometrist thought was a detached retina is actually a blockage from leakage which may clear but the opthamologist scheduled laser surgery if it doesn't for Oct 20. The other eye is getting an injection next Wednesday.

A friend who is a type 1 diabetic, recently had the laser surgery with great results.

Keryx got her left eye injected this morning, she says that it is hazy and uncomfortable. But it doesn't hurt. Now I have to scoop the cat boxes and everything else around here. Now it is my turn to take care of her.

Gravdigr 09-28-2016 01:45 PM

Make sure you do it right.

'S good that it doesn't hurt.:jig:

Wishing her a speedy painless recovery.

BigV 09-28-2016 03:56 PM

Best wishes keryx!

After she's healed you may not know it for awhile, if she gets used to you helping out. :lol2:
