Speaking of which, the whole "cruel and unusual" debate concerning the death penalty pisses me off, too...

couldn't have said it better myself. "they're injecting them with chemicals (too lazy now to look it up again) and it may cause them extreem pain" yeah, well good. i hope they feel it in the afterlife too. it would be no comparison to the pain that the families feel every day. and as far as using them for medical testing? "oops shit! it didn't work doc! he just keeled over and croaked! oh well, send in the next one, Rita" hell yeah. test them instead.

Yeah, but this would be strictly a bitch forum. You wouldn't necessarily have to back it up with facts...it aggravates you, you bitch about it. Or write poetry about it...lol.

Sure and then make them into lampshades and soap.

Sorry to have not said anything. I still have ample free time. It just seemed like the "magic" I used to have with writing entries wasn't working, and I decided it wasn't going to. Plus, the character of the Cellar seems to be changing from a place of intelligent discourse to a place for idle chit-chat. This makes me not want to come here so often, which undermines my attempts to keep my forum updated regularly.

But don't worry, I'm definitely sticking around. :)

I also have some constructive criticism. "Curious..." is an extremely bad title for a thread. Thread titles should always describe the contents of the thread in a concise and informative way. A better title would be something like "user-hosted forums" or "user-hosted forums?".

That way, when people log on to the board the next day or the next week, they will not forget what the thread is about, and they won't have to click on it again just to find out. Armed with this new knowledge that you have given them, they are then able to make an informed choice about whether or not they wish to read the replies in that thread.

Informed choices. That's what it's all about.

The idle chit-chat thing is a phase, juju. This too shall pass.

Sidhe, if you want a place to bitch, start a thread named Bitch Thread. You do NOT need a forum for something like that, and in fact, I think such a thing would weaken the concept of user hosted forums.

juju 01-20-2004 11:09 PM

Not necessarily.

In my forum, I usually wrote some sort of anecdote about something that had happened to me recently. I'd say what I felt and thought while it was happening, and then I'd segway into some (hopefully) interesting thoughts or insights I had learned from that experience. That part would hopefully get people thinking and replying, but of course the entire thread also doubles as a journal of sorts. So, I think you can create a good forum based around rants, if you do it right.

But of course, if you're just going to give your opinions on different subjects, there are already forums for that.

Segway?? Segue, perhaps?:)

Oh, I see Mike covered that. Nevermind.

And I think Syc covered the I wanna segway discussion.

Lady Sidhe 01-22-2004 08:08 PM

Well, I would hope that the threads posted on my forum would initiate interesting debate. Just because you bitch about something because it pisses you off doesn't make it insignificant or irrelevant. I'd hope that the things people talk about would be controversial, things that get people thinking and debating...

For instance...I've posted things such as opinions on abortion, prostitution, gay marriage, and the like on other boards, but got no response either agreeing or disagreeing. It was as if people didn't want to touch the subjects. I like to see how people think, and I believe that controversial subjects get people thinking about, well, what they REALLY think. That's what I'd like to do with this forum, among other things. I'm sure it would evolve over time, but it has to start somewhere.
