I'm also 0 for 2;I picked Seahawks over Rams and Chargers over Jets.

Griff 01-13-2005 08:00 PM

Turns out the Seahawks were kinda sucky. The NFC bubble teams are weak.

Question: Is Manning gonna show something this weekend?

Griff 01-15-2005 08:10 PM

Brien's 47-yarder with 1:58 remaining hit the goal post, but Roethlisberger gave the Jets the ball right back when his off-line throw was intercepted by David Barrett -- just the kind of mistake rookie quarterbacks are supposed to make in the playoffs, but Big Ben had rarely made during his 13-0 rookie season. The Jets then drove cautiously from the Steelers 37 to the 25, giving Brien a 43-yarder to win it on the final play of regulation.

But the kick sailed far to the left, not even close, and the given-a-reprieve Steelers danced joyously on their sidelines -- Roethlisberger right in the middle.

That was unusual.

Oaktree67 01-16-2005 03:36 PM

You can say that again.

elSicomoro 01-16-2005 03:58 PM

Damned Rams...I'm not really surprised that they lost, just surprised at how badly their asses were whupped.

The Eagles were solid--rust was not an issue. The Colts/Pats game should be interesting...I'll go with Indy by less than a touchdown.

Even good teams need luck. Pittsburgh proved that yesterday. I think they're the team to beat this year.

Griff 01-16-2005 07:44 PM

I hope you're right. They really need to be sharp against the Pats.

In a restaurant without televisions or radios, the patron with the internet capable cellphone is queen ...

Had lots of visits from the wait staff ... "Would you care for some more complimentary pickles, or perhaps some coffee and desert? And while I'm here, do you happen to have the latest score?"

lumberjim 01-18-2005 07:50 PM

jinx and I went out to a fancy restaurant with some friends saturday night, went back to their place and got good and drunk. we slept till 10:30, had coffee, putzed around, and then went out to breakfast at crackerbarrell around 12:30. My friend Matt had Tivo'd the game, and we were planning on going back to his house after eating and watch the game sans commercials. doesn't the waitress seat us next to a party of 20? and in that party of 20 there is, naturally, Captain Loudtalkerman who brought his 6" tv in to the restaurant and kept announcing the score. cock!

Neat story in the Times explaining how the Steelers came together as a team this year. There are lots of things that could have blown them up QB issues RB issues etc... but they're still grinding away. I think Maddox should get a lot of credit. When he was a young'un Elway did everything he could to sink him, Tommy is a better man than that.

I don't know if you guys have looked outside your windows lately, but given current weather conditions, it looks like the participants in today's Conference Championship games may have to take the field in snowshoes. Right about now, the street outside my home disturbingly resembles an outtake from "The Day After Tomorrow" and polar bear and penguin sightings have increased geometrically in the last twelve hours.

wolf 01-23-2005 08:49 AM

Because of the habit of Eagles fans to pelt their opposition with snowballs ... there won't be a single speck of cold white stuff in the Linc.

Here's an interesting question. Since Gov. Rendell is an unabashed Eagles fan, if the Steelers win the Superbowl over the Eagles, will he go to the parade?

wolf 01-23-2005 01:37 PM

I thought that in a soundbite I heard last week he was showing clear favoritism for the Steelers ... I was quite confused.
