I'm not a make-up fan either, although when I used to wear it. But stopped when the rednecks at coffee shop thought I was gay. Ok cheap shot.

That's a complicated question, naturally. I'll try to give you the Cliff Notes version.

One factor is my Avoidance Syndrome. Instead of fixing something, I'd start over (eg, instead of fixing my job, go out and get a new job). Life is screwed up, become a different person, or fantasize about it.

Another is that I am a pleaser. I identify with women who talk about how that has kept them from taking care of their own needs, and how hard it was to please a controlling dominant father. A lot of guys talk about how when they were younger felt they could do anything and had lots of confidence. I always felt inadequate and don't identify with that.

I don't like the posturing of career-oriented men. I do it real well, but it is a strain to put up the facade. After talking with some women about this, it is a case of the grass being greener on the other side. Women can be tough on each other too.

Finally, men are plain. Women have a lot of freedom of expression with makeup and the variety of clothing they can wear. It seems like it's more fun to be female. :ivy:

I wore makeup once, but I was young and needed the money.

Sundae 10-24-2005 10:02 AM

I unreservedly endorse:

Ginger by Lush
John Frieda Volumising Hairspray
Bacon & egg baguettes with HP Sauce
Rita Queen of Speed (ride) at Alton Towers (theme park)

btw is Clinique considered a less expensive brand or have I read that wrong? Clarins & Clinique are considered quite posh among us admin staff. We get trial sizes of the skincare & eke them out so that we smell expensive. Slumming it would be buying Superdrug's own label brand.... (which is on my bathroom shelf at the moment!)

Undertoad 10-24-2005 10:12 AM

I hereby endorse Achewood. It takes about three months of reading it to even comprehend it at all. But having put in that time, I cannot look away.

mrnoodle 10-24-2005 10:13 AM

Girls who don't wear much makeup are hawt.

I endorse:

Porcupine Tree
Strawberry yogurt pop tarts
Springfield Armory pistols
Dunlop guitar picks (1.0 mm)
Larrivee acoustic guitars -- if I can ever afford a good one
O'Dell's Vanilla Porter -- only available on brewery tours, and I've never had it. But it sounds good, no?
