That's a lizard? The thing in the hanging off the nest? Looks like a scorpion or something. I'm so confused...I think the pic viewing part of my brain short-circuited or something.

glatt 07-24-2007 08:27 AM

The lizard is the thing on the right in the box. It looks like a rust stain.

Shawnee123 07-24-2007 08:49 AM

Then, there are more than two critters in this pic?

DanaC 07-24-2007 08:55 AM

Whatever it is it appears to have very big antennae.

yesman065 07-24-2007 09:16 AM

A hopper of the grass ??

glatt 07-24-2007 09:18 AM

The real question is: Were those bare black (hot) wires exposed all the time :worried: , or did Flint take a wire nut off when he opened the box?

Flint 07-24-2007 09:19 AM

It's a wasp.

It looks like no wasp i've ever seen

Shawnee123 07-24-2007 09:25 AM

I know things are bigger in Texas, but that looks nothing like a wasp
.

glatt 07-24-2007 09:33 AM

Huh? It looks exactly like a wasp. You're looking at it from underneath.

Shawnee123 07-24-2007 09:52 AM

Really???????

Still looks like a cricket or scorpion to me. Must be the camera angle.

DucksNuts 07-24-2007 09:30 PM

Cricket to me, as well.

That was the second critter I was referring too.

steambender 07-24-2007 10:52 PM

It might not be Mom, it might be baby just crawled out and still drying off, too soft to fly and not yet adult colors. it would make a soft tasty snack at a time like this, which might explain the lizard. Lizards don't have jobs, so they can hang out and wait for events like hatching...

barefoot serpent 07-25-2007 11:17 AM

it's the molted shell of a cicada

It's none of those things. It's a wasp. It's right next to a wasp nest. The guy who took the picture said it was a wasp. It looks like a wasp (look at the triangular shaped face, thin legs, and the long wings on its back.) It's a wasp.

Shawnee123 07-25-2007 11:51 AM

(Glatt is very protective over wasps and their personal identities) :)

Sorry, looks more like a cricket than ever. ;)

I was just teasing the maintenance guy about how loud his walkie-talkie thingy is. I said there was someone in Cleveland who couldn't hear it. He said "don't you have something to do?" I bet you're wondering the same thing.

glatt 07-25-2007 11:53 AM

Crickets aren't yellow.

Shawnee123 07-25-2007 11:59 AM

not all crickets are black. Ok then, it looks like any insect besides a wasp.

glatt 07-25-2007 12:01 PM

look at those long rear legs and the hair like antenna! Is that anything like Flint's picture? :p

Shawnee123 07-25-2007 12:03 PM

Well, uh, no.

I know it's one of those things where if I could just see the wasp once I would totally get it. My brain isn't seeing it. I even have my reading glasses on. :)

Uisge Beatha 07-25-2007 12:06 PM

Um, you guys are all wrong. It's just a bug, not a real insect of any particular sort. The CIA bugged Flint's place, that's all.

Shawnee123 07-25-2007 12:09 PM

Could be true, I mean we are talking about Flint, after all. ;)

DanaC 07-25-2007 12:29 PM

I still don't see a wasp....I'm not trying to be awkward....hell I wanna see a wasp...I still don't see a wasp.

Shawnee123 07-25-2007 01:11 PM

I know, DanaC, I know. Me too. I've tried. It's like a Magic Eye pic.

Bugging is so Clinton Administration, now they just kick in the door and drag you off to Azkaban, uh, Guantanamo.

Clodfobble 07-25-2007 06:11 PM

You just don't have enough experience staring up in the air at wasps' asses. Come visit Texas sometime. I recognized it as a wasp before I even realized it was crawling on its own nest.

Okay, old #2 ....... It seems like looking through some sort of colored glass, but what, precisely? How about a glass Christmas tree ornament?

Guess #2 Power-On Light on a 1970ish piece of electronic equipment, possibly a stage amp.

Post #88 is the hole in the side of an empty above ground pool from the inside.

#88 is a glory hole into a bullpen

Clodfobble 07-26-2007 10:24 AM

I seem to recall we were given the answer to the glowy green thing once before, and I didn't know what it was even after I was told...

Borelight.

That is a green led at the bottom of a muzzleloader barrel, four feet deep and half an inch across.

At camp this year, we got a chance to learn all about firing a muzzleloader, and part of that process was cleaning them. At the end of the cleaning procedure, before reassembly, the barrel was inspected with this tool. Since a muzzleloader's barrel is more like a cup than a tube (ok, a really long tall thin narrow cup with a tiny leak at the bottom...nevermind), the borelight had to be dropped in from the muzzle and when it slid to the bottom, we were able to inspect it with the light it cast on the inside of the barrel. This is a picture of what I saw.

How to roll your own.

No more callers, please. We have winner!

At Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, there is a pub/bar in left field. It is right at field level. There's a low overhanging roof with a window out into left field, covered by a net. When you're sitting at the bar looking out this window onto left field, to your left is the visitor's bullpen. This picture, #88, is a little round window with glass (or lexan probably) about the size of a baseball. looking onto the bullpen from the catcher's perspective. There are several of these little windows.

Good call glatt!

Flint 07-26-2007 11:57 AM

It immediately made me think of being behind one of the old-fashioned scoreboards...
...but I couldn't figure out what part of a ball field would have two walls that close together.

Ooh! Ooh! I know I know! But I'll be subtle about it in case anyone wants to guess.

It's multi-colored foam from a car wash! My car wash does the same thing, one color soap in each sprayer, so you're all rainbowed. But how did you get a picture of it? Did you drive out halfway through, or get out of the car mid-wash?

Trecno Colored Puke ?????

wolf 07-28-2007 12:34 AM

I've been to one of those places, so I recognized it too. There isn't one in my neighborhood, but my best friend goes well out of her way to go to one, because it amuses her and the children.

Congratulations! You're right! Wow, that "mystery" lasted all of three minutes. Anyway, that's from the car wash all right. They have a mode that is (I forget the real name) Super Triple Foamy Fruity Wash or some such nonsense. This car wash is the do it yourself variety, so I get to spray it on the car myself. I thought it looked cool, so I grabbed the camera before it all slid away and snapped the picture. Btw, it all three colors come out of the same nozzle/spray gun. I reckon there's some machinery in the pumphouse that cycles the colors. And it does smell like strawberries or guava or something. Entertainment factor +2, clean factor meh, it's soap.

OK, here's a silly little something so BigV and Flint can take a break. It will be, perhaps, all but impossible for anyone to get (unless they saw it on the same site where I found it), so I won't plan on waiting forever to give the answer. Still, it could be worth a few shots; and, no, it's not the obvious. :D ............. What is this:
