Will highlighting work for anything off site?

Undertoad 03-16-2006 05:03 PM

No, I use "Copy Link Location" to fetch the URL in cases like that. It would be interesting if you could just cut and paste the text AND the link...?

Happy Monkey 03-16-2006 05:14 PM

Undertoad you can.

sweet!

So does this version have a WAP or other mobile-friendly version? Or are they working on it for future releases?

Elspode 03-17-2006 01:29 PM

What does "view forum leaders" mean at the bottom of the main page, and why does it hate me when I click on it?

Undertoad 03-17-2006 01:40 PM

It doesn't even like ME. There are no forum leaders and I'm not sure why it still shows up.

SteveDallas 03-17-2006 02:15 PM

Heh. You just THINK there are none. The link works just fine for those who are supposed to have access to it.

But I can't. It's no longer idiot proof.

lumberjim 03-18-2006 01:47 PM

for some reason, i'm getting email notification of replied to threads again. i checked my options, and it's turned off. what's the dillio?

Undertoad 03-18-2006 02:19 PM

I have no idea on that one. I've subscribed to this thread without notification so lessee if I get hit.

lumberjim 03-18-2006 02:36 PM

It seems to be only older threads. like i got one for the humor thread, but not this one. that help?

i used to use email notification.

busterb 03-18-2006 03:17 PM

Well I sent UT a PM other day and have no reply. And no I didn't saved a copy. So I have no idear what I asked.

Undertoad 03-18-2006 04:05 PM

i would like to express my sadness for the loss of the quick jump to forum menu. FOR SHAME!

Beestie 03-19-2006 12:33 AM

I just realized - well it just actually dawned on me that I'm no longer losing threads in the "New Posts" link when logging in and out and from different computers. I used to have to keep the initial "New Posts" page open because if I hit it again, I'd lose everything (no posts would show as new and I'd have to troll through each forum to find new stuff).

That is a big improvement at least given the way I navigate the waters here. I'd make an terrible sailor - I'd toss the compass overboard in the first five minutes and just sail off somewhere.

Undertoad 03-19-2006 08:53 AM

Another 3.5 improvement. It doesn't depend on cookies to figure out whether you've seen something; it actually flags that you've seen it in its database, so it knows for sure. A lot smarter.

This helps me because I seem to lose my place even when I open a different tab in Firefox to fact check.

What's the new way to insert links and then edit the url to text? It used to be easy with the 'insert hyperlink' button. I couldn't even post the URL for some weird reason today. Clues?

wolf 03-21-2006 01:38 PM

Type the text, highlight it, and then select the link tool, which will be plopped into place and surrounded with the right assortment of square brackets and codewords.

capnhowdy 03-21-2006 02:14 PM

Thanks for the tip, Wolf.
Again I have proven myself to be computer illiterate.

lookout123 03-21-2006 10:56 PM

i'm a little slow here. i love the "ago" feature, but i miss being able to hit the dropdown menu and see who is viewing what thread. i would just keep that up and stumble around when i was bored. newbies are really good at going through the archives and drawing my attention to threads i've never seen.

What do you think of the "15 minutes ago" variety of stating the time of posts and threads? I've turned it on to see whether we like it.

Rather like it, actually ... lets you know how long ago the post was (which is how we humanoids actually think) instead of the date stamp.

But after 24 hours, I'd like to see it revert to the date of the post; the actual time is not so important.

And one thing that is quite nice ... the way that the Quick Reply function adds a post without completely reloading the page.
