Actually, looking back over this thread it seems to consist mostly of answers from people who didn't stick around.
Still, it was started by Ali and I posted an honest, if brief response in it, so we give it gravitas.

You too now.

glatt 09-28-2009 10:20 AM

There are a couple of other threads on this topic. Looks like I never saw this one. My handle is an old college nickname.

You win the prize for being the most thorough.
I lose for mostly just searching under my own name, which means I missed at least three (concluded before I joined)

Interesting reads though.

skysidhe 09-28-2009 10:43 AM

I want to change my name to: ema cympeltin

Sundae 09-28-2009 10:58 AM

You need to talk to Els.

Shawnee123 09-28-2009 10:58 AM

I want to change mine to "Imma Letya"

There must be more threads. I remember addressing the issue once but most of those threads are before my time.

Yeah, I don't claim to have done an exhaustive search. There must be more.

good one!

Right before I fell asleep last night I thought of a good misspelled user name but I forgot it. Had I known of this thread I would have written it down.

Where'd you get yours from?

Kind of sounds familiar. Is it the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant you're refering to?

Me...

I'd change it if I could, but no point in doing so now. It serves as a reminder how things were about three years ago - I really felt like I was going mad - family issues, extended family issues, etc...

There's a lot of drama in my extended family. We (my wife and I) rarely get involved anymore (although they'd love for us to "solve their problems" again). We learned they'd just take advantage of us and then dump on us later anyway. Sad to say, but our own grown kids did a number on us too.

The other part of it is my sense of humor. It's a little off the norm.

Shawnee123 09-28-2009 11:40 AM

My reasons for my user name were threefold: only one of those reasons is still relevant, and that is the obvious reason.

Spexxvet 09-28-2009 11:52 AM

I wish I had chosen Heywood Jablomee.;)

Saturn 09-28-2009 12:48 PM

I saw some very cool photos of Saturn recently, and fell in love.

classicman 09-28-2009 01:27 PM

Shawnee123 09-28-2009 01:28 PM

Queen of the Ryche 09-28-2009 01:31 PM

Favorite band. (I am far from being a queen in any sense of the word, let alone having my own Ryche.....)

Must learn more mnemonics. And no, kiddies, that isn't pronounced 'pneumonics'.

classicman 09-28-2009 02:17 PM

H-H-HAGGIS - I laughed so hard I stuttered!

A long time ago, in a land faraway .. there were Very Few English People on this board ....

sweetwater 09-28-2009 02:56 PM

A little tavern from long ago and far away and a little town more recently and closer. I wanted something different than my usual nom de plume.

To be fair, you're not over-run now. Undertstand your point though.

Funnily enough, sleepy finger typed it in some olde tongue (cut & pasted)
ti be ffaie, your moe overrin noe

Nice....

BTW - did you see David Mitchell on Who Do You Think You Are?
I always thought Gaelic was pronounced Gay-Lick.
But the scholars went for Gallic (as per French) all the way through. I admit I missed the beginning, but is this a new thing? Like Tutankhamun, Urunas, Boudicca etc?

plthijinx 09-28-2009 03:44 PM

the non-vanity license plate version of my handle is Pilot Hi-jinx

capnhowdy 09-28-2009 08:07 PM

I must have lost my handle. She left owing her bills. Again.

Can I handle it? I'm like a broken axe. I ain't nothing but handle.

to be ffaie ... the (Scots) Gaelic language is referred to as "the Gallic" as far as I know. As to the wider cultural reference, I dunno!

I always read it as pil-thi-jinx. Always wondered what it meant, too.

yeah,a few years back we were having a similar discussion and there were several different spins on it.....(too lazy to look it up, too early and not enough coffee yet!)

TheMercenary 09-29-2009 08:06 PM

I stole mine from a dead Hobo. Really.

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 07:59 AM

Better not have been one of the hobos I killed. I retain all rights to my dead hobos.

Yznhymr 09-30-2009 11:33 PM

Mine is easy: I am an obnoxiously conceited and self-assertive person with pretensions to smartness or cleverness...okay, maybe not so smart of clever, except in my own consciousness...but my delusions often break free and find their way into a blog/post somewhere before being ignored or scoffed at (also by me).

Speaking of dead hobos, there's one over at a shut down Wendy's over near my house. Know anything about that one Shawnee-girlie?

Shawnee123 10-01-2009 07:24 AM

Uh, no, er...eh...

Not fileting and cooking one's dead hobo is abuse of a corpse, and frankly, not very environmentally friendly.

Not to mention a waste of good meat. I mean really, there are starving people all over the world. At least donate some to the local food bank.

monster 10-01-2009 10:58 AM

I have two handles. I got them from beer.

Gravdigr 10-05-2009 03:39 PM

I used to dig graves. The old part of a local cemetary was so cluttered w/graves & giant headstones & crypts that the machinery couldn't get everywhere it needed to. So...We were the crew that hand dug the graves in the older sections. Anybody need a hole?:yelsick:
