Black Sabbath is about as melodic as a dying calf in a hailstorm.

There's more going on with that song than melody, vocals and Ozzy swinging his head like a pinwheel. :p:

Same with Whole Lotta Love, although not my favorite Led Zeppelin song there is so much more going on musically as to merit a vote.

No, I agree with that. In fact, my ex (who I can best describe as a percussionistic jazz-fusion lovin' Berklee college of music piano player) even once couldn't believe I was dissin' AC/DC. He said, basically, even if you don't LIKE the music...if you knew anything you would see how good it is musically, especially the "bass line" in Shook Me---(?)---music peeps, is that the phrase I was looking for?

I do really like Zep...just think it's the worst of their popular songs, that Whole Lotta.

I'm just difficult and I do love some nice melody and percussion and jazzy sounds.

I SAW Ozzy when I was in HS. :)

We are debuting "Whole Lotta Rosie" at the Ashton Tavern tomorrow night so... this question is relevant to my interests.

AC/DC is basically, let's take blues rock and bash you over the head with it. Most AC/DC songs have three notes, except for Angus's solo which has 29. It is not "good musically". I would say early to mid Stones can be just as simple, and yet much harder to pull off, because it has hidden swing to it which can't be duplicated. And yet, AC/DC does in fact rock, simply because it's so pure of heart and loudness. It's instinctive, it kicks you in the crotch and you can't ignore it.

Thanks. Was hoping to hear from the bass player. :)

I don't know a lot...though ex tried to teach me some things. I would surprise him from time to time if we were listening to some fusion and I'd notice something in the background, or something in the way it was arranged.

Some day there will be a road trip to see your band, UT. I'll throw Bri in the trunk and we'll just show up.

I see Linger is still lingering on. will someone please shoot that bitch? I think the next field of 64 should be for the worst song ever.

Shawnee123 04-09-2010 12:50 PM

[petulant baby]Well, this one was flawed since the beginning with the obvious omission of STEELY DAN and the heavy-handed heavy guitar raucous stuff that I've been hearing since HS and it still sounds like nails on a blackboard and having heard it 9000 times it only produces yawns and chills whereas I could hear Black Cow 50 million times and still think it's beautiful[/still pouting over that]

I've been voting for the lessers of the evil, imo. Kinda like voting for president.

Just messin'. I mess. Sorta. ;)

But, for the rockers:

Whole Lotta Love, if only because it's the Byrds not Dylan we're voting on.

I agreed with Shaws assessment of Whole lotta love from a couple days ago. no where near one of the best LZ songs.
