Spring is springing up all over.
Alien looking buds.
Dandelions. Did you know the name comes from the French dente de lion (lions' teeth)?

Any day it's not actually raining, I cut through a churchyard on my way to school.
Some shots. Note the broken boot scraper to the left of the door.

It's so Ænglisc. Or is saying something is old English in England an oxymoron. humph

Sundae 04-03-2011 06:18 AM

The Church is St James the Great.
It's thought to date back to the 14th century.
So, yes, it's proper olde worlde.

Oh, except of course it was built as a Catholic Church. Then Henry "wife murderer" VIII pinched it.

Good day Mrs. 40 cow, may I get you a spot by the feeder? Can I interest you in a bite of shucklage? It's a tasty combination of corn plant parts, tossed with corn kernels and fermented with a smooth inoculate powder, topped off with a bit of sprouted rye grass. ;-)

What camera is that taken with grav? If you don't mind me asking. :)

Probably not something I can afford.

It's a Kodak EasyShare MD-41, 12.2 mp. From Target $99, got it for Xmas before last.

Very cheap on eBay.

Beware the wall charger, though. Mine was/is a piece of crap. Fell apart in my hands, and I had to glue it together. Prolly one in a million. Didn't expect that from Kodak.

Pretty tough, I've dropped mine twice, once onto carpet, once a glancing bounce off the countertop onto the kitchen floor. Like a Timex, it takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Literally smaller and thinner than my wallet.

dmg1969 04-22-2011 02:22 PM

I went through all of my thousands of photos and put my favorites into a photobucket album. If you have a few minutes, check it out. I linked to the slideshow because it's easier to see the full images.

Anytime I'm around a fire, I usually take at least one pic to see if there's a face in the fire. There's always a face in the fire. Remember this.

The first pic is untouched apart from resizing. The second pic I 'shopped the eyes and mouth, but that's all.

Spooky. Kinda.

Tulip 04-23-2011 10:12 PM

Oooh...that is neat. Never thought of looking for a face before.

Sundae 04-24-2011 06:59 AM

Grav, I have a Kodak too, but mine is older. An Easyshare M1073 10.2MP.
But it's pink.
And yes, it's enduring. Mine's been bumped about in my bag, in my luggage, on trains and coaches and what-not.

I love that squirrel! I'm never fast enough to catch them on camera.

Re the face in the fire. I can see the one you shopped obviously, but you missed the one already there. The mouth is at the top right hand side of the triangle and the sunken eyes above it. Sorry if that's what you were referring to!

HungLikeJesus 04-24-2011 01:59 PM

The one I see is very bright, and in profile. Is that the one you mean SG? (It's blocked in the second picture.)

Pico and ME 04-24-2011 02:28 PM

I see that one too, hlj, but I wasn't sure if he shopped that one as well. It looks so distinct.

( and what a big nose it has....)

Gravdigr 04-24-2011 02:52 PM

I hardly ever see the faces when I take the picture, it's only afterward, at the 'puter that I see 'em.

The ones I see at the fire, don't usually show up in my pics...

But, they're always there.

I've always wondered if this plays some subliminal role in man's fascination with fire.

Gravdigr 04-24-2011 02:53 PM

Oh, and...

Sundae 04-24-2011 04:35 PM

No, I see the profile in the first picture.
But there is a spectral face in the second too.
It's not as distinct as the first one, in fact it looks a little like a grey alien because it has HUGE eyes.

Only good products. I've tried them all.

Favorite among those is Ardbeg 10 though I prefer the 17 years old. The taste is more mellow.

Hey, look, horses, in Kentucky, whodathunkit.

BigV 05-05-2011 08:22 PM

@ Gunmaster357:

The Ardbeg was very good. But it was not my favorite. That distinction belongs to the Laphroaig. It was, by far, the most flavorful, most smoky, most impressive of the bunch (what is the collective noun for several Scotches gathered together anywhoo?). I have since bought a couple more bottles. Magnificent.

For our next soiree, we've decided to have a Bourbon tasting. More reports to follow as events warrant (and permit).

Have you ever tried taking a pic of a bat? At night? In flight?

glatt 05-12-2011 03:58 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Yes. It's not easy. I stood with my camera outside a house infested with bats and took picture after picture as they flew out at dusk, and the overwhelming majority never came out. You need an enormous and super powerful flash.

This was the best one out of about 30 tries.

Gravdigr 05-13-2011 12:24 PM

Hard on batteries, too. I was standing in the dark, camera set to infinity, button pushed down halfway, waiting...waiting...I lost count how many blank shots I took.

TheMercenary 05-13-2011 02:07 PM

I will have to try that. We have a ton of brown bats in our area. I think they just live in the trees.

BigV 05-16-2011 02:23 PM

Thank you.

He (?) and his mates were quite tame. Trained practically, I petted the nose of one that was begging begging begging (unsuccessfully) for food. I'll find it and post it. I like how the look of his fins are echoed by the palm fronds dipping into the water above him.

Here are a couple shots from the neighborhood showing the gravid cherry trees. They're just bursting with blossoms, and we had a bit of weather which shook the trees. The petals practically make "snowdrifts" of lovely pink.
