Duke got fired today

I didn't believe it, but...

xoxoxoBruce 01-03-2018 09:55 PM

Duke is the other guy that does what you do?

lumberjim 01-03-2018 09:56 PM

I was there setting up my new computer, and he got in some kind of spat with a sales manager that has a second interview at another dealer tomorrow. This manager is the one of the four we have that I would consider a normal person. His imminent departure was weighing on me. My job will be harder if he does leave.

Well, he 'quit' over the altercation. My hope is that with Duke gone, he will decide to stay.

Undertoad 01-03-2018 10:26 PM

Duke is sales

That was hard to follow. So the sales manager might have been leaving because of Duke?

Duke is a salesman. He was a constant itch. Way past tolerable, but he performed. The balance finally tipped, i guess.

Not really. I think it had mostly to do with money. But there's a balance there too. How much you make vs how much shit you have to eat.

Duke made everyone else's life harder. Two of the other three sales managers also wear on him.... I just hope he won't want to miss life there post Duke.

Griff 01-04-2018 06:34 AM

These things always sort out funny. We had a series of dominoes fall recently, who knows the end result?

Undertoad 01-04-2018 06:56 AM

so there is a point where a sales person can really bring in dollars but get canned anyway for being just intolerable?

captainhook455 01-04-2018 08:27 AM

When I worked at Wal-Mart it was hard to get fired. Laying out was the #1 terminator. I would scan the job listings and would suggest they bid for it. Then I would be rid of them.

Funny thing is they would often brag about how good a job they did on the floor crew and oftentimes they couldn't figure out how to put a wringer on a bucket.[emoji1]

monster 01-04-2018 06:21 PM

It's impossible to get fired here in AA right now, unless you're caught stealing. At least in the "unskilled" sector. But I think everywhere. So few workers, so many jobs. Starting pay even for maintenance and bag packers in my store is $12ish and no-one bites. With benefits. We are employing brain-injury, alcohol rehab, and non-English speaking people almost exclusively. Which is great except that..... we sell alcohol. By the pint to sip as you shop. None of the drug rehab people can sell it, most of the brain injury and non-English speakers can't manage to do the training needed to sell it..... etc etc etc

Certainly in my store, anyone with a vague hint of competence is promoted to a manger within weeks. They don't have the skills. Where are the people with the skills? .... I think the "next tier" are also suffering and those people are working those jobs.....

I suspect but have no evidence that it's trickle-down from when Pfizer -formerly the second biggest employer in AA after the University of Michigan- bugged out. Our population decreased dramatically -especially families with young children -those children would be the people filling the unskilled jobs as they graduated high school without plans, and the stay-at-home spouses would be filling the more skilled jobs as they were no longer needed at home.....

That's crazy. In Austin, there are open jobs for tech and other white collar positions due to ongoing rapid expansion, but the service industry is cutthroat. Way too many teens and students, not enough people willing to go to shitty venues with teen/student levels of customer service. Plus a lot of the service jobs that would normally go to teens are taken by musicians in their 30s.

monster 01-04-2018 09:04 PM

it used to be that way here. That's why I blame Pfizer. It's not like we don't have students galore..... but most of them are rich and don't work....

captainhook455 01-06-2018 08:38 PM

So did it snow much up your way? We were expecting 3" of ice and snow, but a dry hole was over our area and we got a dusting. All around us was disaster. DOTs spread 500,000 tons of salt and 485 tons of sand in Myrtle Beach and Horry Co.

The temp was running 15° and y'all know salt don't work at that temperature. The dummies should have spread 500,000 tons of sand. The troopers reported 375 accidents the night it snowed. These Hicks can't drive in rain. What they doing out there?

People can't drive an automatic in inclement weather. They put it in OD just like usual. These days cars are small and light with aluminum engines. Oh the cars have front wheel drive which isn't worth a fuck in snow and ice cause there is no weight on the drive wheels.

I have an Avalanche 2 wheel drive. It has a 38 gal fuel tank. I just fill it up and drive anywhere. I didn't I stayed home as I had pneumonia.

Well thats the news

monster 01-06-2018 08:41 PM

Too cold for snow ;)

lumberjim 01-07-2018 12:34 AM

Front wheel drive cars have the engine and transmission over the drive wheels. Your 4X2 truck is less suited to driving in snow.

It's 7° as I post this. Brisk.

Griff 01-07-2018 09:43 AM

We have barely enough to xc ski. The downhill mountains are making a shit-ton with these temperatures though. The gear is out and ready to go.

Gravdigr 01-07-2018 03:19 PM

I used to fill the pick up bed with snow to get more weight for extra traction.

It compacts continually, though. Then ya have to put more snow in, or the compacted snow will start moving front to back in the bed when you hit the gas, or brakes. That gets annoying fast. And can become a hindrance, instead of a help.

xoxoxoBruce 01-07-2018 10:55 PM

Evidently it went up the coast, Bethany, DE, got a foot, Toms River, NJ, 16", Cape Cod a foot. Plus the Cape Cod bays are frozen over.

I'm talking about those little cars that are about the size of a Fiat. Sit low to the ground and get stuck on a dog turd.

lumberjim 01-08-2018 11:46 AM

I hear ya. Ground clearance not withstanding.... Back in 1996, i sold cars. The Ford Aspire was the easiest car to get out of a snow drift. The mustang was impossible. The Aerostar was worse.

What day is this? Tuesday Ok I can talk to you on Tuesday cause you working. That was some rain event here. Did y'all get much snow. Right chilly outside with the wind. I will be so glad when this winter is over. Seems longer than usual. Why we have had almost a month of cold ass cold.

lumberjim 02-01-2018 06:33 PM

It snowed some, but didn't stick much. I had the bike out a couple of sundays ago. Now it's cold again. Ready for that whistle pig to say it'll be an early spring.

Gravdigr 02-02-2018 02:03 PM

Ahem, pardon me, sir?

Sir? If I could direct your attenshah over hah-->

captainhook455 02-10-2018 10:46 AM

I wanted to trim my grapevines and roses today as the temp will be 75. A light(lol) rain front brought spring weather for a day. I just knew that I could get a hundred mile bike ride too.

I might get the ride if I can get the bike out without getting in the yard. A Harley is a fine machine, but light it is not. The front tire will float through the goop, but the rear digs in like a trench digger. I have stepped off the bike. No side stand. It stands straight up.

Speaking of bikes. Jim go to the other forum to Laurel Springs thread. Mebbe you can make it. I plan to ride my scooter instead of trailer cause its only 262 miles from me. They allow trailer queens so think about it please.

I feel for y'all that put up with the snow and ice. I lived in North Jersey and put up with it for 17yrs.

Here is my yard that I was going to run drop cords across.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...714ffee8e8.jpg

captainhook455 02-18-2018 10:34 AM

I declare this is my thread. I mean I like pussy like most other men, but pussy will not rule my life. I have had my head stuck between a pair of legs many a time so I know what I am talking about.

A man can do most anything he wants if he can lick it and dick it. Beer in the fridge, Marlboro in the freezer. Ride the bike when he wants, talk to buddies at a bar come home and take care of business.

Guys when you come home does she get a peck of a kiss? Women want a kiss like when you first kissed her way long ago. Squeeze her butt too.

Poor Jim will be out in the yard this spring planting more flowers. I think someone else is doing all the work.

The point of this post is that this is Jims thread and he wanted me to talk through the cellar. But he don't talk back. Kinda like share our adventures in this thread.

So if he is not allowed back on his own thread then I hereby steal it. Now I need a picture. Hmm.

By the way Jim this post is all in jest. I just miss your posts. My heart bleeds for you. You ought to see the bloody thing.

Oh wait I have a pic of my son. Maybe he is a little tough.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...967c842b24.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dcddeef31a.jpg

lumberjim 02-19-2018 10:13 AM

If you want to talk to me, i'd prefer you text than post stalky comments on this forum or any public site like bookface or the HD forum. I don't know where you got the idea that i wanted you to talk to me through the cellar.

And if I don't reply to your text, that just means I'm busy or I don't feel like talking. I work 12+ hour days where I deal with the public all day, plus 16 salesmen, 5 managers, etc etc. Amanda works from home an has zero contact with live people. So when I get home, and on days off, she wants to talk. I'd rather you didn't make rude and graphic comments that infer that she is preventing me from amusing you.

You get me?

Yes it was. Way back when Jim you said you thought we would talk through the cellar, but I texted anyway. My fault. I was just trying to get you to come by and say hello to not just me, but everyone else too.

I said this post is in jest next time I will spell it bigger. Oh northern humor.

I dunno; I think using 'dragon' might soften the insult. The other items in column 3 can take on and enhance the insult level, but 'dragon' turns it around a bit.

A slimy butt dragon is still a goddamn dragon.

lumberjim 05-10-2018 05:36 PM

how about a Butt loving Shit Dragon? That would indicate a dragon shaped shit...which is actually shit, and not a dragon at all...

Still a dragon, in my mind (And it looks like that thread agrees, actually). One with fecal breath, who likes to kidnap princesses with a bit of junk in the trunk.

I know, right?

Using 'dragon' in column 3 mitigates the insult factor of the first two columns, if it doesn't overwhelm them entirely.

Clodfobble 05-11-2018 06:00 PM

Day one of vacation today. We left home at 4 Friday after work. I loaded the bike on a trailer and we got as far as Winchester Va. Hooked up with a buddy we met in Front Royal 3 years ago. Had some beers and burgers. The burger menu was very interesting. They had one called Fat Elvis. With Peanut butter, bananas and bacon. Didn't try that one. I had a George Washington. Cheddar, bacon, apple slices and a fried egg. Damn tasty.

It started raining around dusk, so driving with a motorcycle in tow was extra enjoyable. It's still fucking raining as I enjoy this free breakfast at the Hampton inn. Cmon.

xoxoxoBruce 05-19-2018 07:18 AM
