We had a batch of them bird type fellers, it was very informationalistic for the sproglets. The birds is all gone now. I only whack destructive mammals and people convincingly dressed as destructive mammals
And only in season. @ Glatt, there was one of those machines in a movie theater in Albany, NY where I used to live (Row H, seat 115) That was in 1990 or 1991. I bought a poem. it was only a buck or two, I have it upstairs, I'll look for it tomorrow. |

This was from this evening, taken about ten minutes from my house. I love my town.

I wonder if anyone would notice if I just built a house and sidled on up to the end of the row there and parked it? |
Very nice, V. I like the vibrant colors.

From last night. Am I the only one who was awakened by the glare?

glatt, PZ, that is the Montlake Cut. You're looking at the Montlake Bridge in the background, gateway to Lake Washington.

Caught today. One down. One to go.

in Savannah?!
|
Yea man, Gators are all over this place. Not down town Savannah, but they have been seen quite close by on a regular basis, you just need to leave the areas that are most crowded.

Always beautiful pics V.
Nice subject Merc. I adore the critters, but happily live in a country where they will never be a threat to me and mine. The Oncoming Storm (a name for The Doctor) but literal in this case. We've had a sunshine and showers day. This was the estate about 3 minutes before it started raining. Hence the poor stitch together - it got too dark to match up the pictures accurately. Oh and I'm not all that good at it anyway :) |
Thank you Sundae, so kind.
I love your picture too. From what direction is the storm approaching? |

Merc, you guys down in GeeAy oughta teach the 'gators to eat the snakes!!
|
Wish I could but so few of the bad ones ever venture into the water. Must be a mutual respect thing.
Guess that is why they are not afraid of me. :D |
ha! Professional Courtesy?

It's coming towards me. I suppose it's not technically a storm, as there was no thunder or lightning, it was just a very heavy downpour. It went from spitting gently to monsoon in under a minute, and my umbrella was practically useless. I came home with my trousers soaked through, and my arms running with rainwater. It was warm though, and very refreshing. Once I got out of my wet shoes. I hate wet shoes. And then the sun was out and we had blue skies for another hour. Probably good for the plants. |
This is from a few weeks ago. Finally captured streak lightning during a storm. Just pure luck using a 5 second shutter. I'd love to get some more.

Nice!
|
Super cool.
|
Excellent! Good on you!
|
Yeah, it's one thing to capture lightning. Not easy. It's another to get a cool looking picture as a result. You've done both here.
|
dmg, that is great! one the best on her in a long time. Well done.
|
I never can catch the lightning on my camera. Hubby suggested I stand by the clothes line pole, but I don't see how that can work
|
Stop it, he did not. :lol2:
|
Thanks all. It's something I have tried several times but did not get lucky until recently. Mostly, I would get the flash in the sky, but not the streak. It's simply being pointed in the right place at the right time and having the shutter open at that right time. It's not easy because we don't have a covered deck or porch. So, I have to have a storm with good lightning, but not raining yet. Thanks again!

The only trick (other than luck) is you have to be able to keep the shutter open for a given length of time. Capturing one in automatic mode is one in a million shot. I set my camera to manual and then adjust the aperture, ISO and shutter speed based on what I want out of the photo. |

Got another one yesterday. This guy was about 4 feet long.
|
Your area is overrun with gators, Merc?
|
Not really overrun, but we have quite a few of them, esp where I live. These two are from a brood that came from a pond near by. A big momma gator has lived there for year, she is about 12 feet. Once a year she has babies and I think they are kicked out of her pond periodically as they grow. There are lots of places for them to go but they often find there way into our ponds. Since we have kids around and fish it the pond we don't want them that close. We also get an occasional sea otter that has to be professional captured to relocate.
|
With all those gators and rattlers and such, I guess you don't have a problem with woodchucks, then, eh?
|
Buddy of mine just got a job with Savannah Fire, I showed him some of your gator pictures Merc and he's not thrilled about potentially dealing with those things. He thought they only lived in the Florida glades!
The only gators we run into up here are in the zoos, and guarding meth labs. No really. There were a couple cases a few years ago where gators were found chained up inside meth houses like guard dogs. |

Kite surfers at sunset at The Fishermen's Huts beach in Aruba. Just the luck of the draw, I was driving by and it looked like it would be a great sunset so I set up and shot until it was dark.

I had to take photos of the old sewage lagoon for DEQ. I thought I share one with you. It's my favorite spot to take a girl for a picnic on a first date.
