I love pineapple! I could eat an entire one if they didn't make your tongue hurt

Clodfobble 06-20-2013 07:31 AM

Fun fact: pineapple makes your tongue burn not because it's acidic (many foods are,) but because it contains tons of a digestive enzyme called bromelain. This means that eating fresh pineapple with your meal, especially the core, will help you digest the rest of your meal. But it also means that while it's in your mouth, before it gets to the protective layer of mucus in your stomach, it is literally digesting your own flesh.

You call that a "fun" fact? That's horrifying! D:

I knew that :) That's why it is such a good meat tenderizer. Still gonna eat it! :yum:

I love to eat pineapple with salt and chili peppers. The torture I must've put my stomach through and didn't know. :p

Green smoothie: milk, spinach, banana, grapes, and a tbsp of flaxseed oil. I tossed in some old kumquats, which I'm never gonna do again. Made the drink tasted a bit weird.

Okay I snipped that. But I didn't alter the meaning.
Thank you for the info!
I always thought I was weirdorama because fresh pineapple hurt the corners of my mouth. They were obviously the most sensitive parts; I stopped when it started hurting.

I'd still be tempted by really fresh pineapple though. I ate it every day in Sri Lanka and it was like going from black and white TV to colour.

I think it's Havarti cheese with jalepeno. I'm not too sure because I already threw away the container. :)

We went to an Indian restaurant for lunch. We already started eating before I remembered to take a picture. I was so full. I don't think I'll eat again until tomorrow.

Next to the restaurant is an Indian snacks and British candies shop. I asked the owner's permission before snapping a picture. :D

"Special barf?!" Ha! Was that like a "garbage cookie" - a dessert with everything in it?

Today is vegetarian day so we has spinach soup, spinach stir fry, green bean stir fry, and cucumber. The sauces are spicy bean curd sauce and spicy soy sauce. Afterwards, we had Japanese green tea and chocolates.
