Whoa! I really like the fruits, and the way they're packaged too. Very cute.

HM, those are impressive! I think they'd definitely sell, I see crafted stuff like that at markets in the city all the time. I like the 8-bit/Minecraft-y feel to them. Most excellent.

Cool!

A simple mod to my old standby shape:

The rhombuses have simply had their centers cut out, right? You're not joining hollow segments to form the tiles, right? I tried to imagine if the "hollow segments" were triangular in cross section or only "L" in cross section, and I think I see now they're "L"s with each leg of the L an edge of a given tile.

As for the method, do you make many tiles, then connect them together (duh, of course you do) but I mean when do you remove the centers? When they're separate tiles on your work surface or when you've assembled the happymonkeygagon?

I made the rhombuses, then cut out the centers. Then I made the individual points, with 3 rhombuses each, with tape on the inside holding them together, and extending out to make tabs. Using those tabs, I taped the points together, and as each point was completely surrounded, I cut the center out of the internal tape on each rhombus of that point. Then, I wrapped it, and once it was fully wrapped, I went around and cut out the centers of the outer layer of tape.

Right on time I was thinking about these this week.

Nice, do you have a rough idea how long it takes you to make one like that? To some people that may sound like a dumb question, but I'd imagine you do that in more than one sitting, and could be multitasking so the time frame may be fuzzy.

Happy Monkey 06-08-2016 01:46 PM

Not entirely sure... Less than 6 hours, I think. I think each one may have taken 1.5 to 2 nights, but I'm not sure how long each session was (I'd be watching TV or the Youtube app, and keep going one more show/video until I got to a good place to stop.

xoxoxoBruce 06-08-2016 05:01 PM

Yeah, I figured you'd be multitasking, thanks.

For those of us who don't have HM's talent or patience, but would still like to amaze and amuse your guests, you can cheat. Thomas Houha builds cool dodads and sells them in kit form, so you can say, "Yes, I built it", with a straight face. ;)
This one, for example, is $32. Now back to the real talent thread.
