You could have cut the baseboard and set your frame flush with the wall. I mean you're never going to move the machines back to the cellar.
Are you moving that outlet out to the face of your construction? |
Good eye, Bruce. No, we're gonna put a little door on the right side face of that base so we can get to it if we need it. (read Amanda reaching in there) With a notch to allow it to close with wires plugged in. ... At first, I was thinking 3/8" sheet rock, but now I'm thinking Luan cladding on the outside with molding on the edges.

Excellent!

Is that an optical illusion, that the rear horizontal member of the lower box hiding the pipes looks like it's not even close to being level?
Otherwise, it looks like it's going to be really good. That's a nice space there right by the door. Just screaming for something to be built in. |
There's a guy up near Binghamton that can make beautiful boards. ;)

It is an illusion. that back cross piece goes diagonal, and the stud is sitting on it. |

i was toying with the idea of creating my own molding ,but I think it will be more cost effective to buy it. I have a router table and the bits I would need... but the time it would take is prohibitive. |
and my boards are a year away

I hope this carpentry is done before I get up there again. I am allergic to dust unless it is in my pipe. Keep up the good work dude.

Little shelves in the columns sounds helpful too, perhaps to hold small baskets for the sundries that always end up by the door if not kept in check...... Sunblock in summer. maybe bug spray... Pepper Spray for the JW..... :D |

Nice detail shot there. Now I see why it was an optical illusion.

You're probably thinking of this already, but I would encourage you to try to mimic the molding on and around the front door as much as reasonably possible to make it look like it has always been there.
|
Yes definititely. That's the plan. Might even distress it in places to make it look not brand new

Driveway got paved today finally

The sophet got done today
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a3e6fef477.jpg I guess next is too attach it to the wall, screw it down to the floor.... And sheath it in. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b3fa511f1d.jpg Gonna be enclosing the water pipes that feed the radiators, so there will be heat to deal with. I'll put a grate or vent on the stair side top of the left column. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3ce63c9fe1.jpg Think I should put a small vent at the bottom of the left base to let air convect when the pipes get hot? |
Is that the full time drain or just for the overflow catch pan?
|
That's the drain. And the supply and fios
|
Does FIOS work better than laundry soap? :haha:

I would guess that there is not much heat in those radiator supply pipes. They probably get warm, but not hot to the touch..
I figure you have 3 options. Just box them in and don't worry about it. The warmth in the pipes would warm up the woodwork slightly and would contribute to the warmth of the overall house because they run inside the envelope of the insulated house. Or you could put in vents like you suggest to try to let the warmth out of the built-in unit and allow it to get into the house a little more quickly. Or finally, you could put some pipe insulation on those pipes to try to get the warmth up to the radiators and not "lose" any in the enclosed space. I put "lose" in quotes, because the warmth will still pass slowly into your house if you don't insulate the pipes. But by insulating you can try to focus the heating in the upstairs room with the radiator. The only worry with pipes along an exterior wall is that they can freeze if it gets really cold out and your heat happens to go out. But those look like PEX pipes, and PEX pipes do well when they freeze. If it were me, I would probably just buy a pack of pipe insulation and insulate the "hot" pipe to try to get that heat up to the radiator. And I wouldn't put vents in. I'd be curious what you decide to do, but I don't think it matters much. |

Look at post 1679. At the top of the pic you can see 2 white vertical pipes. The one on the right is thicker and it gets hot. The left wall of the left column will go between the 2.

Ah, so the hot pipe is inside the box. :smack:

Whoa! What happened?
|
had an optirectomy.
see.. there's a nerve that runs from your optic nerve straight to your rectum. If you cut it, it eliminates your shitty outlook on life. and I had a little basal cell skin cancer there. |
That's a big cut for a "little" skin cancer. My dad had one on his face and it was like two stitches.
Don't be fucking around with me and acting like it's no big deal if it was huge. Was it huge? Do you have to go back for scans, or are they certain it didn't metastasize? |
It was smaller than a dime. 5mm?
They biopsied it in July and was benign common basal cell. The doctor (Greenbaum) is on the top Dr list every year. Longer cut so it heals flat. Is ok, I'm fine. My dad gave me this skin. |
This little spothttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...63b4de75ad.jpg
|
Sorry you have to deal with this. :(
Keep getting a regular checkup every year. When they catch it early, there’s less cutting they have to do. My wife has been three or four times for Mos surgery. Her forehead has character now. And wear a wide brimmed hat, ok? |
i was thinking it had more to do with the C-pap mask i wear. maybe the irritation in combination with the sun. I need to be better with re-applying sunscream.
|
Glad you're on top of things. Stay well!
|
Oh No! Fuck cancer.
|
Momdigr had a thing removed from the same spot earlier this year. They tried freezing it a couple times, didn't take, so to speak. So then they scraped the fucking thing off. Left a helluva divot, it's filling in, though. And the thing hasn't returned, so...
When I first saw your evidence, I thought "Now all ya need are the bolts-in-the-neck, and then ya"---And then I thought, "Too soon, maybe." It's good ya got it took care of. If nothing else, it's that much off yer mind. |
Please take that in jest, as I meant it.
Also, fuck cancer. |
Get all the health care they are paying for!
One of the advantages of living where we are... good docs want to live and work around here. I begin to get the suspicion that the B team is working out where mama lives in Harrisburg. Just a troubling suspicion. Well more than a suspicion... when there was real trouble 7 years ago, they sent her to a Penn hospital for the surgery... |

Look on the bright side, you lost weight. :thumb:
My mother had a bunch of spots on her face chopped out at 65, and lived to 95 so it can be beaten. |
I'll be on the same team soon enough.

Those look like some seriously well-done stitches. Very neat & tidy.

The doctor that referred me to him said he's the best, always perfect. And you know how vain I am, and that's the side of my face that faces the customer at my desk when I look at my monitor...
So far, customers been too polite to ask what the head wound is about, but I've had to explain it to the coworkers repeatedly. Never a straight answer. I had a zipper put in so I can change the battery easier, etc. |

When my father-in-law had a brain tumor, three different nurses went out of their way to reassure us that the surgeon he'd been assigned to was "the best in the state." C'mon--the best neurosurgeon in all of Texas is working at a mid-tier hospital in suburban Fort Worth? No he fucking isn't. But it made my mother-in-law happy, because it was what she wanted to hear. So, okay. |
I woulda just figgered that there was only the one neurosurgeon in all of Texas, and everything else was just cowboys.
:stickpoke |
I did Google him. Steven greenbaum in Philly.
The doctor that referred him didn't seem to be selling anything. He said, you'll wait longer to get in with him, but his work is always perfect. And then gave me 2 other doctors that are also very good. I wasn't in a hurry, so.... And I know a guy that used him and he was 2 thumbs up. Only hurts when I put on glasses at this point. |
