Norge! For I know a bit of language and could live in the hills far away from everybody.

Italy

Rural southern Russia - the people are lovely, the climate similar to Italy or Greece, but I'd have to have a good internet connection!

Really ? rural southern Russia isn't cold?

The cold factor has ruled out about three other places I like. ( like Scotland, Ireland, which is probably wet ?)

I'll stay here but I want a place that doesn't get the extreme temps, whether it be winter or summer. Today was 95 and humid. Wipes me out, fast.
The rest of y'all, just send me a postcard, willya? Thanks.

Southern Russia reaches down to 45 degrees north of the equator, it gets hot enough to grow walnuts, peaches, grapes, olives ... that's hot enough for me!

Ah, yes, but does it rain, snow and THUNDER all at once? ;) Lewis Black (comedian) says that happened to him in Boston once.

Well, you might have guessed, but it would be 'La Belle France' for me - reason, (food, wine, scenery and transport network aside) the French just won't let anyone piss around with their way of living, so, allowing for the few hiccups resulting from those newcomers who think otherwise, the country manages to retain its historic culture and traditions.

For a slightly eccentric example, where else could you travel several miles along a country lane with no turnings to right or left and then come across a 'rue barre' (road closed) sign, simply because the next village is holding it's annual fete (it happens all the time)- so you just have to turn round (possibly reverse) all that distance you have travelled - magic! and it just wouldn't happen here, ever. I once tried to close a 100 yard stretch of residential road near Hampton Court, between two junctions for the Golden Jubilee celebrations and was turned down flat by the local council concerned 'for safety reasons'.

Where would I go - my favourite location is the foothills of the Pyrenees around Prades - mountain scenery, summer sun, clean air - but there are plenty of contenders as every region has its own charm and character.

I could see myself there as well. I took French at the US Defense Language Institute (Presidio of Monterey, CA), spent time backpacking through the Normandy region (not exactly tourist class), got a birds eye view of the countryside from under canopy (awarded the French military parachutist badge), and I appreciate their wines (I'm still drinking '82 Chateau Margaux that I bought on release in the mid '80s in addition to various great '89 & '90 Bordeaux classified growths.) While I was there, several French households received me warmly. On an individual basis, they don't forget their allies. I certainly wouldn't mind pedaling my vintage Raleigh Competition out to the airfield/drop zone on weekends. Yes, despite the difference in ideologies, I could live with that.
