Well, Obama gave a good, leadershippin', businesslike kind of Inaugural Address. Struck a good note with me, particularly the expressed determination to defeat our foes. Not many national-level Democrats have shown anything like such determination. Practically none of them unless you count Joe Lieberman. Some wouldn't.

So, one transfer of power, one address, one lunchtime seizure on Ted Kennedy's part, and one parade. Very well so far.

And an acknowledgment that American "non believers" exist. Whoot!

That's a far cry from the elder Bush, who believes we do not deserve to be citizens.

Pie 01-20-2009 03:11 PM

Wow, they got out of the motorcade and walked part of the parade route. Hard to believe the cheers they got.

I noticed that bit too, Pie.

Very strong coming out the gate. Now let's see how he scores in stamina. I wish him luck. He's damn sure gonna need it.

I didn't get to watch it, but did read it. Wow. I think it sets a good tone.
I was really happy about his acknowledgement of non-believers too Pie.
Also liked "we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals."
Gah-too much to reference it all.

No I don't buy into all the hype, but I can't help but have some good feelings about the change.

capnhowdy 01-20-2009 05:15 PM

Yeah.... definately a historical event. Our very first Kenyan-American president.

Undertoad 01-20-2009 05:41 PM

FWIW W. referred to non-believers several times.

Pie 01-20-2009 06:04 PM

To be sure, W wasn't as bad as his dad.

Just can't accept, huh?

It's a hard one. An old adage: It's wrong bit it's real.
I might as well accept it. He's the chief and as an American (not irish- american, dutch-american not french- american, etc.) it is my duty to stand behind him.Why can't people just be American? They rant about racism and then segregate themselves with every other word.

classicman 01-21-2009 07:30 AM

Really good point Cap'n.

Sometimes I feel like asking: If just being an American isn't enough, then....

TheMercenary 01-21-2009 07:58 AM

...then maybe being a half American is all they can muster. Bleh. I want to outlaw the term African American, it is so miss used. Just call yourself an American, regardless of where you came from or the color of your skin and it will solve lots of problems.
