Yet that is almost exactly what Travis picking is. Either way, Carter-style was guessed too late.

And ELSPODE! That's against the rules, you aren't s'posta look it up, thats the point!

Since that one's outta the bag I guess I'll ask another one. Stevie Ray Vaughan played guitar on that song, and Bowie recorded it cause Iggy was nearly starving cause he was so poor; Bowie recorded it again and sold a lot of copies, and Iggy got a share of it.

Name FIVE musicians who contributed to Warren Zevon's Warren Zevon

dar512 06-26-2006 02:09 PM

Holy cow. I just looked it up on allmusic.com. Yes, I know that disqualifies me.

However, I think the correct answer ought to be "just about everyone".

Ibby 06-26-2006 02:12 PM

's very true, I was going to say ten, but that's too many off the top of one's head.

Elspode 06-26-2006 04:34 PM

Linda Ronstadt, David Lindley, Lee Sklar, Jackson Browne and Russ Kunkel are my guesses. And no, I didn't look 'em up. Major Zevon fan, here. I'm not saying they're *correct*, I'm just sayin'.

capnhowdy 06-26-2006 08:26 PM

Ibram: the reigning champion of music trivia.

Damn, Ibram you good.

Ibby 06-26-2006 10:37 PM

That's one, elspode... four of 'em arent right, sorry. Keep trying!

Elspode 06-26-2006 10:43 PM

Aw, crap. How about telling us which one is right?

Ibby 06-26-2006 11:10 PM

Jackson Browne played on Warren Zevon.

Griff 06-27-2006 06:50 AM

Pulling from my butt....Ronnie Wood, Stewart Copeland,
gah... these are tough

I think those artists were probably all on Excitable Boy, but that's not the album Ibram's asking about.

I am so far from being able to answer any of these questions that I'll just shut up now.

Me too.
Are you sure David Lindley isn't correct also Ibram?

JayMcGee 06-27-2006 06:19 PM

the led zep thingie.... quote by one of the band at their fiirst gig after splitting from the yardbirds..''oh well, that went down like a lead zeppelin'

JayMcGee 06-27-2006 06:23 PM

.... and whats the connection between T-Tex and SofCell....

Ibby 06-27-2006 08:04 PM

Jay, you have to answer one right before you can ask one.

And you're wrong about zeppelin... It was actually Keith Moon who said it, before their first gig; "you'll fly like a lead zeppelin!"

EDIT: oh man, jinx, you're right, i missed that one... Okay, Elspode, that's TWO, my mistake

JayMcGee 06-27-2006 08:22 PM

I knew it was a drummer......

.....but I did think it was led zepp's drummer who said it.... oh well....

as for getting it right first..... not going to happen..... (all the ex-wives and the current wife are in agreement on that.....)

Ibby 06-27-2006 08:23 PM

Well it doesn't hurt to try, but you can't just jump in and ask questions, it doesnt work that way.

wolf 06-27-2006 08:27 PM

I'm reminded of a time when a friend of mine's wife-to-be attempted to organize a pool-full of drunken, naked pagans into a rousing game of Sharks and Minnows.

Rather a lot like herding cats, it was. Drunken, verbal cats, who started heckling her partway through her explanation of the "rules."

footfootfoot 06-27-2006 09:59 PM

Sharks and minnows? Sounds sexy in a naked pagan, drunken in the pool, nearly drowning sort of way.

And so what is the new question?

Ibby 06-27-2006 10:29 PM

Elspode has two so far...

Quote:

Naw, that's just why he was poor.

glatt 06-28-2006 07:59 AM

Nobody knows the answer. Tell us and move on.

Elspode 06-28-2006 08:27 AM

I got two out of five, so can I ask 40% of a new question? The no-research rule is going to sort of drag this thread down, IMHO. There needs to be a time or # of incorrect guesses limit, and then the poser will have to pass it...or something. Otherwise, this thread will turn into "Marvel at Ibram's (considerable) Music Triva Knowledge".

Ibby 06-28-2006 08:44 AM

Ibby 06-28-2006 10:35 AM

It was Tom Lehrer. Elspode guessed right, but UT informed us that we don't check IOTD enough, and that Lehrer retired from teaching a few years ago.

Elspode 06-28-2006 11:36 AM

I defer my turn to someone else. I'm not trying to take control, I just want it to keep moving.

Ibby 06-28-2006 11:45 AM

Nah, just go dude, someone has to and you got more than anyone else did

Elspode 06-28-2006 12:14 PM

Name the instrument that does the shrill lead line during the instrumental break on "Runaway" by Del Shannon.

Ibby 06-28-2006 12:36 PM

Wasn't that like, one of the first synths? Clav-something?

Trilby 06-28-2006 12:37 PM

Piccolo?

(wild, desperate guess)

Elspode 06-28-2006 12:39 PM

Was not a synth nor piccolo, but Ibram's got half of it.

Ibby 06-28-2006 12:58 PM

clavi...tron? clavi...line? clavi...cle? something like that. Cant really remember.

Elspode 06-28-2006 01:16 PM

No one is gonna get closer than Ibram.

Clavioline.

And I did know this before asking the question. The link is just to help those who aren't familiar with the instrument learn a little bit about it, should they so desire.

Ibby 06-28-2006 01:34 PM

Whooo!

Now if only I could remember little random things I hear when I'm trying to take a math test...

Identify the owner of this:

jinx 06-28-2006 01:36 PM

The artist formerly known as Prince

Ibby 06-28-2006 01:48 PM

Prince it is.

I can't get enough of him today. I love him. When Doves Cry is my new favorite song. For now. Amazing shred intro.

Trilby 06-28-2006 01:49 PM

What's the question, sensi?

jinx 06-28-2006 01:59 PM

There's a bar/club in New Jersey called the Stone Pony. What's its claim to fame?

Ibby 06-28-2006 02:12 PM

Someone started there... one of those boring guys I dont like much. Since neither Coldplay nor U2 is from new jersey...

Springsteen?

glatt 06-28-2006 02:16 PM

edit: nevermind

Linda Ronstadt?

Ibby 06-29-2006 06:32 AM

Well if not springsteen, I give up.

EDIT: HEY! I looked it up, seeing as how I gave up..

Griff and a couple other PA boys got wicked drunk there one evening and ignored Bon Jovi, hoping that Bruce (the other Bruce) was going to drop by instead.

Ibby 06-29-2006 07:03 AM

gasp, ignored bon jovi?

okay, jon is a bit lamish, but richie pwnz.

Undertoad 06-29-2006 07:24 AM

Is richie the one bon jovi was going to kick out of the band for getting fat?

Ibby 06-29-2006 07:37 AM

I listen to Yngwie, you think I care if hes fat?

Undertoad 06-29-2006 07:40 AM

No, but jon bon jovi does. One of the band, I don't remember which, he was going to kick out for getting fat. As a musician who got fat I am so unimpressed by this.

Griff 06-29-2006 07:58 AM

Jon's music seems cooler from 20+ years distance. He was on an unbearable high rotatation at that point. I hadn't heard the weight story, wow, what a jerk. Oh and Jon just came in and sang with the act that was scheduled, no hot band.

Ibby 06-29-2006 08:29 AM

So do I get to go?

jinx 06-29-2006 08:35 AM

Springsteen didn't get his start there Ibram. Greetings from Asbury Park and The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle both came out in '73 - the Stone Pony opened in '74. It's famous because he used to stop in and play unannounced gigs there even during the height of his career.

Who's next?

Griff 06-29-2006 08:42 AM

What awesome guitarist, who wrote Ramblin' Man, did Griff see unannounced at a hole in the wall bar in Scranton PA?

Elspode 06-29-2006 12:12 PM

Dickie Betts?

xoxoxoBruce 06-29-2006 01:04 PM

BonJovi...pompous ass and mean drunk. :(

the aces.....

Elspode 06-30-2006 12:07 AM

Let me clarify...what was The Who's name *immediately prior* to being named "The Who"?
