Feliway might help:
http://www.feliway.co.uk/Stress-and-...Cat-Households Also this website might have some useful advice: http://www.understandinganimals.com/index.php From that site, there's contact details for a cat behaviour specialist. She's UK based but there's a phone and email contact for her, so might be worth dropping her a line and asking advice: http://www.understandinganimals.com/...haviourist.php Again from same site a forum specifically for Cat issues: http://www.understandinganimals.com/....php?board=2.0 |
If integration fails, one option is to keep NewKitty for as long as it takes to find an alternative good home.

Feliway hasn't helped us I'm afraid. But good advice there (ditto Zen)
|
ohferfux ache.
Amanda, get to the ER i you're still swole up this am. I wish I had advice to offer, wish I had been there... but then my reaction would have been instant and extreme violence against the little monster. ...which I'm sure is the wrong way to handle it. He is a sweet cat, and when I was playing with him, he was nipping, but being careful not to cut me.... must be that you taste too good to resist. Sorry you got cut up. |
Will keeping them separate permanently cause too much disruption to the daily routine? And yes, get your arm and leg looked at.
If keeping the monster (:D) is not going to be a realistic option, can you advertise on -say- Craigslist for a cat lover who likes a challenge to adopt him? |
Jim' girl again...thank you for the responses and advice. I've left all three cats out together this weekend. Generally going well. Kitten is an instigator but he's leaving chase alone. We'll give it another shot and see how it goes. I'm hoping it was just a freak event. Thank you again!

Let newkitty get his/her ass kicked a few times. (S)He'll learn his place in the pecking order soon enough.
|
And if they do go at it again, throw a glass of water on them instead of wading into the fray!
|
Nononononoooo no throwing water. Let THEM determine the pecking order. It is their way.
|
depends how much damage is being done really, classic.
As a general rule though, I'd agree. Very much the same with dogs as well. But you do have to be careful with that strategy and be ready to step in if things get very nasty. Though...not by actually stepping in... |
Get a squirt gun/spray bottle. Almost anything a cat does, that you don't want it to do, just give it a squirt/spray of water when the cat misbehaves. Cats do not like it, and will quickly stop most offending behavior.
Oh, and love on the jealous cat extra-like. |
Maybe the new cat gets upset with the other cats because they have real names. If it continues to be an instigator, call it Klyde ... JB for short.

.. on a lifelong quest to find the truth of Ceiling Cat?

I don't know how they take cats for placement, but Kitty Cottage has a great reputation. I have friends who have gotten kittens and cats from them.

I hate to say this, but sometimes cats just don't integrate.
We recently had to find a new home for one of ours because she just couldn't get along with the other cats. We tried everything, and believe me, I mean everything. We tried for about 4 years! Finally we just couldn't stand it anymore and decided it would be better for her, the other cats and us, to find her a new home. We were lucky that a friend of a friend came to see her and loved her. She took a week or so to settle in, but now she's happy as a pig in poo. Probably because she's the only pet in the house and just sits around on the teenage boys lap most of the time. All's well that ends well, but it's sometimes the only way. |

I like Jasper!

He does kind of look Jasperish about the face and head.
I dunno. when you try so many, it's just a matter of what sticks. The kids named our second cat Spike. He TOTALLY should have been Mr Wilson. |
There's a British comedian who was big in the 80s called Jasper Carrott.
We should get your kitteh and my puppeh together as a comedy double act. |
