I am really excited about this, too, Beestie. This will be a really good opportunity to learn about musicians I didn't know about and learn about other cellarites.

lumberjim 02-21-2004 07:34 PM

that's Mr. Dumbass, to you, blue. And I think that it's important to note that the seed of this idea was planted by another member of the cellar, that apparently wishes to remain anon.

Good idea. Great Venue.

And great participation.
Wolf, when it comes to talking about the discs, I'd opine that we simply speak in general terms, and not give away the names of particular songs. You could refer to the disc with the people before you on the list that have heard it, also avoiding naming song names. Maybe we should all keep a copy of the play lists since it would be immoral to keep a copy of the disc, that way we could call them by "Wolf7 or Wolf14" .

good enough?

christ.....i think i'd better post some guidelines and refferendum.

how's blue for everyone? so it's easy to find the post.....right here on page 9....

Uh...perth can't stay up past 10:00. I have tried to get him to, but he just can't do it. :D

I love when he's out of town, nowhere near a computer for 2 days.

elSicomoro 02-21-2004 08:24 PM

And the order is...

1. Zippyt
2. Sycamore
3. JeepnGeorge
4. Elspode
5. Wolf
6. blue58
7. Slartibartfast
8. SteveDallas
9. Cam
10. Jinx
11. Jimbo
12. Hot Pastrami
13. Beestie
14. Sheppsie
15. Juju
16. Case
17. Rho

Rho verifies that this whole thing was 100% random.

Look at the person below you. This is who you will be sending your CD to. Exchange addresses.

Anyone else who wants in by 3/1 will go to the bottom of the list. So Rho, keep in mind that the person you will be sending your CD to might change. And Zip, keep in mind that the person you will be receiving a CD from may change.

If there is anyone who is not comfortable giving their name and address to the person above them, you need to PM me ASAP.

Everyone clear?

kerosene 02-21-2004 08:38 PM

Do we start sending this Monday?

elSicomoro 02-21-2004 08:42 PM

Goddamnit...did you not read my earlier post? 3/1. :)

elSicomoro 02-21-2004 08:43 PM

Except for Rho or whomever is last...they will mail theirs on 3/2.

lumberjim 02-21-2004 08:44 PM

nice

so i get jinx first. I wonder what i'll learn about her? It's not like I haven't been listening to her cd for the last 15 years. And she's bouncing around right now saying she's going to force me to listen to it for the whole entire two weeks. Well, I guess I'll save some postage. :)

Sorry. Just trying to get my post count up. Hehe. :typing:

elSicomoro 02-21-2004 08:50 PM

Ya know, I just thought of something...it's probably important that we specify a mailing type, since everyone lives all across the country. And thus far, it looks like everyone on the list is here in the States.

I say Priority mail...padded envelope. For me to send a CD from Philadelphia to Los Angeles would cost approx. $5.75...and I'm highballing the weight at 2 pounds.

Is everyone okay with this?

kerosene 02-21-2004 08:52 PM

Yep, cool with priority mail.

Woohoo! Another post!

How about in a jewel case, sent in a priority flat rate envelope (cardboard) for $3.85?

mrnoodle 02-21-2004 10:50 PM

Oh damn. I wanna play. Is it too late?

wolf 02-21-2004 10:51 PM

This is too cool. I'll have to run out and buy a batch of envelopes. I wonder if they still sell those data mailer thingies ... perfect for sending CDs in ...

Interesting aside ... the person that I need to supply my address to is someone who already has it. I feel all comfortable and secure now ...

you're number 18.

i think this list might reach critical mass at 20 people. that's 40 weeks of travel for each disk. almost enough time to spawn a man child.

Brigliadore 02-22-2004 12:15 AM

If its not to late I would also like to get in on this.

Yeah, I thought that was kind of convenient, too. :) Furthermore, I will be receiving CDs from Jeep'nGeorge, who used to live here in KC. Sounds almost predestined in some way.

Syc...are you pretty sure that your lady isn't a witch?

BTW, I'm down w/Priority Mail at $3.75. I've mailed out many CD's (fulfilling online purchases of Tristan and Iseult) over the years, and it works great. Even a padded envelope does the trick. Plus, you can purchase postage online, print it out on your printer, and have the USPS site make up your Priority Mailing label. You don't even have to leave the house as long as your postal carrier will pick up the package from your house!

xoxoxoBruce 02-22-2004 10:06 AM

Or buy the stamps in advance.

Slartibartfast 02-22-2004 01:55 PM

I vote that when we reach the halfway point of this cycle of exchanges, we each add another cd collection to the one we are sending out.

It cost just as much to send two CD's as it does to send one.

Then, when we get our own first CD back, we can replace it with a new one.
Another half cycle later we get the second CD we sent out back, and can send out another one as well.

The cycle can continue until we get sick of it.

juju 02-22-2004 02:55 PM

That's a great idea.

kerosene 02-22-2004 03:01 PM

I like that idea, too. I will be sending out 2 to begin with, because perth wants to make one, but not be part of the rotation. I figure we will see if we want to add 1 or 2 at the time this happens.

juju 02-22-2004 03:38 PM

More music for me!

i was thinking the same thing. This is now going to take 38 weeks to complete one cycle, and the second coming that others had refered to sounded good, but too far off to take seriously. The favorite band anthology has been suggested. We should entertain other possibilities as well. Should we wait 19 weeks before we begin phase 2, or should we nudge that up a bit?

SteveDallas 02-22-2004 06:55 PM

Allrighty.... should be fun. I've got my list all ready, just have to produce the disc.

lumberjim 02-22-2004 06:59 PM

is everyone ok closing the list with 20 participants? that leaves one more sot open, and a 40 week rotation.

elSicomoro 02-22-2004 07:03 PM

Before we start the 2nd CD, let's make sure the system works first...let's give it 2 months.

No need to limit the number of people involved...if we get 50, we get 50. If we stay at 19, then we stay at 19.

Case, tell James to quit being difficult. :)

Ep, Rho is not a Witch.

elSicomoro 02-22-2004 07:04 PM

Noodle, make sure to send your address to Brigliadore. I'll send you Rho's address momentarily.

juju 02-22-2004 07:25 PM

Does anyone have any recommendations for cd-cover maker software? I tried to look for some, but got so pissed off at all the registration BS in Windows programs that I just ended up using Photoshop.

I think there should be a reasonable cut off time otherwise the person on the top of the list will have to give their address out again every time a new person is added. This is my opinion but I would say the cut off is something like the 27th at which time everyone can get the address in order and know who will be sending to whom. But thats just me.

elSicomoro 02-22-2004 11:48 PM

Jimbo...what do you think?

--No newbies after 6PM EST Friday 2/27
--Anyone who still wants in on this needs to put their name in this thread ASAP
--After 6PM EST on 2/27, zippyt can look at the list and see whom he has to give his address to.
--Monday 3/1 is mailing day

lumberjim 02-22-2004 11:55 PM

sounds good. I think I'll start a fresh thread in my office to keep the list readily accessible. I'll start it after 6 on Friday with the final list, and Users manual. Any rule changes should be complete by then too, i reckon.

anyone wanna fine tune anything? Do we bother making specific mailing procedures, or just let people do what they will?

Cool with me , I will have a disk ready to mail off . Just in case i am unavailable ( i have BIG customers that demand my presents at odd times ) to mail it ,i will have my wife check for PMs from the mailer .
If you are the last on the list PLEASE PM me for the address ,if I don't pm you by 2/28 .

I already have a disk to send , but i may make another (all you creative folks have inspired me to find some more obscure tunes ).

Now rember I am origanly from MEMPHIS TN so i may come up with some unusual stuff .

How will we know when it is time to send out another disk ????

If we got many more people, we could start a separate rotation.

perth 02-23-2004 09:41 AM

I don't have anything of value to add here, but what's this crap about the Osmonds? How is it even fun to pick on me when I'm not here to take it? You guys suck. :)

If it's not too late, count me in. However you want to do it, I don't care. But one question. Can I make one disc *especially* for Syc and LJ?

ya know, perth, i dont know why i pick on you. youve always been very polite to me. i guess it is because you had such a good humor about the blue cardigan jokes. yeah, let's add you onto the list, so we are consistant about how couples are treated.

case, i thik a separate rotation would be frought with confusion....better to have one list, methinks.

LJ, that's cool. Just thought it might minimize confusion, but if it creates more then let's stick to the original plan.
