Dov, you have absolutely no right to sneer, no matter how vociferously you claim it: it's invalid. Also, it would be masochistic of you to try, for the harder you do, the more I chainsaw and sandbag you for leftwing lunacy: totalitarianism and supporting totalitarianism are things of the Left, after all. I can last longer than you can -- we're of an age, but I think better than you do and am permanently ready to prove it, at least to the objective observer.
It's inaccurate to speak of my being "a fan of anarchy". I am untroubled by the instability that is occurring as Iraq transitions from socialist oligarchy to greater democracy, and since Afghanistan's condition with or without outsiders taking an interest is but slightly removed from anarchy anyway, I'd hardly call their condition deteriorated from when the Taliban were fucking the place up -- and, I think, allowing opium/heroin trafficking. Afghanis are always going to be ornery; their geography very much encourages that, along with their linguistic situation, et cetera at some length. The reason I'm untroubled is that shifts from an old order to a new one are always at least somewhat iffy, and the blasts of car bombs remain largely in one part of the country, and not the other two ethnic areas. They've been killing people for two and a half years now, and are they any closer to carrying the day with Iraqis? No. The Iraqi population is hitching its wagon to a different horse, that of representative democracy. The insurgents have absolutely nothing to offer but banditry now, and a future prospect of banditry institutionalized should, Allah forfend, they ever get back in power by ANY means. Getting OBL is not the same as getting Al-Qaeda, which is what really has to happen to win. Al-Qaeda has to be deprived of the "sea of the people" that the guerrillas swim in. Capturing OBL would be more of a cherry on top rather than something essential to mopping AQ up, and would happen after AQ gets repudiated by their fans in Waziristan and the tribal territories in northwestern Pakistan. Such WMD as survive are probably in Syria, whose Ba'athist government is keeping its head well down, doubtless grateful that Iran's nuclear endeavors are getting all the attention. There does seem to be evidence that WMD went to Syria -- you'll recall the aborted twinned-agent Sarin attack attempted on Amman, Jordan. The Jordanians got these guys, who had trucked about twenty tons of the stuff out of Syria. I've never heard that Syria was a twinned-agent Sarin producer. Even had the attack succeeded, what benefit could the fanatics have realized? I think it would be thoroughly negative, as the entire Islamic world would have been appalled at such an internecine attack. Our self-made, self-declared enemies (and they are your enemies too, if you're really any description of Jew) are a real bouquet of assholes. I don't see any validity in opposing efforts to wipe 'em slick. |
The Taliban actually destroyed a vast majority of Opium poppy crops. It's only since the 'invasion' that things have 'gotten back to normal' over there as far as poppy seeds go.
Is this good or bad? Much of Afghanistans economy is fueled by opium exports derived from either legal or non-legal sources/purposes. (undoubtedly, most people here realize Morphine and all it's derivitives are a product of opium) To the poor farmer trying to make a buck, I'll bet he's happy the US came and got rid of the Taliban. To the parent who's child dies of a heroin overdose...I'm not so sure. |

Btw, you don't know shit about who my enemies are, and I have played your game more than once too many times. Good thing its not vinyl or tape but lazar disk they use to program you, because your rhetoric would have dulled out years ago. Not bad 100 plus posts my first thread. Darling you do not have to highjack this thread, I am giving it to you, une cadeaux. Treat it well and I hope it will be as good to you as it was for me. Ta Ta |
Ahhh...no highjacking intended. ;) Just thought I'd correct a minor error.
I'm still figuring out how a thread about Canada now being the proud owners of a Conservative government turned into another discussion about the rights and wrongs of Iraq and co. |
The Cellar Raises Thread Piracy to High Art.
Somebody remind me to post that in the taglines thread, 'kay? |
I think I should get myself a tagline. There are some good ones here. You're all so....hmmmm...what's the word? Glib? :) I'm not sure if I can come up with anything good enough. :(
|
Don't sweat it. It takes years of honing.
|
But I don't have time for years of honing! I want a glib tag line now!!!
|
Brain pick? You know, dov could turn a strangers friendly smile, RE: :) into an insult. VOILA! The magic of the French, non?
Now, i'm going away. I don't want to have to be taunted a second time! ;) |

Another ally on the war on terror |
Well, V, your long and allegedly rebutting post gave me my first big LOL for today -- though more on account of you being ridiculous than you being fun. Really, V, all things being equal -- I'd really rather you weren't being ridiculous, okay? We are not wholly without sympathy for each other, but come on.
I see dov collapsed once I turned my attention to him -- and worse than Happy Monkey. The Left people just don't have the strength -- they wimp right out, and loudly abandon the field, claiming unfairness. Comes of bad ideas, boo raucous hoo. Me, I never abandon the field, because my opposition's unfairnesses are things to attack, attack, attack, attack, attack. You don't want to get overwhelmed, don't write fatuity -- not when good sense is so much better. Winners look like me; losers look like dov. Take a lesson. |

not

I think it's only working for you because of pre-existing animosity towards UG.
Viewed in isolation, dov is still an ass. |

Ridiculous? Coming from you I consider that an expert opinion. But your preferences regarding my behavior or tone of voice are a matter of monumental indifference to me. You're right. We have very occasionally supported the same side of a discussion. The trend I have noticed is in all those cases, your tone of voice is much more civil. In fact, when you are not civil, I am strongly inclined to oppose you based on your attitude. I would find that kind of dialog (diatribe) obnoxious and unworthy of my serious attention, regardless of the "side" you're on. Notice the rest of your post. This is the BS I'm talking about. It's just talking trash, flaming. Whatever. When you abandon civility, you lose my interest and my support . When you adopt bigotry and prejudice, you orphan your readers. When you fling mud, all you get is dirty. Quote:

Two thumbs down so far. I'm glad I asked. I appreciate your perspective. Thanks.

UG does not inspire the feelings of sheer headache-ary that the Canuck does. Just by pass them both, BigV. Life is too short!

Two days and I am the talk of the town.
Two days and my opening thread is 156. Bac, my personal favourite, relative to lies and ignorance, will easily hit 100 plus. Vets is closest to my heart, to me they are a tragedy and I feel for them, it is beyond posting. Vets should be the number one American issue, (it won’t be), in terms of impact, more so than the eight trillion, Abu Ghraib, social security, and OBL, etc. Someone dear to me figured out why AQ have not attacked yet, (they will.) AQ is waiting for about 700k psychotic vets to return and do AQ’S job for them. I inquired when I first arrived if I needed to stick to Pollyanna. You said no, go for it. I am going for it. Silly to judge me so quickly, I am going through growing pains, new sight. I am human and have insecurities. It has been my nature to push buttons when I am in a new environment, sit back and watch the reactions. I would not call this a positive character trait, good or bad it works for me. If anyone is thin skinned and have allowed my manipulation to harm you, I am sorry. Personally, I could never understand it, being emotional over some black squiggly lines on a white background. There are some here I like and respect and I believe I will continue to. There are some who are shit, always been shit and always will be shit. I am enjoying myself here, a good format and an eclectic group of posters. Thank you |
man. i wish i had the time i used to. lots of shit to stir here.
back to work |
Dov....we are greeting your new government in what is becoming a US tradition with our allies:

dux, you are one of the more aware, politically wise, international, domestic, that I have the pleasure of knowing. I would be willing to bet, (sorry I never, ever, gamble, it is a figure of speech), I am pretty sure you are not aware to the extent that, I would say humble, Canadian soldiers are presently doing in Afghanistan. (No green zone for them, not that the green zone is safe as we all know. 1001 ways to fuck up an invasion.) |
Dux, already over forty percent of those young men (my sons are 21 years old, I identify) have PTSD. They are very sick human beings and will be for the remainder of their lives, which may not be a long life. Almost 100 have killed themselves there, and that is the figure that squeezed its way into the sunlight.
Depleted Uranium? Another day, when she joins us. Most of those boys are a might jumpy. Car? Moving? Shoot? |
If it was the same professional hit squad that assassinated Italian intelligence agent Nicola Calipari and wounded Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena, (they were not after Sgrena, she would be dead if they were, they killed the bigger fish, Calipari.)
Same squad? A Canadian would not be left alive in that car if it were their mission. Armatures shot the car and windshield. |
Not. Dov's a wimp. His claims of superior intelligence and wisdom don't convince.

Dammit, I will have to incorporate reporters murdered, ooops, killed by friendly American fire in Iraq along with the Brit stats. I bet reporters win. Nam has to be in the post somewhere, I am sure, probably reporters killed in Nam verses reporters killed in Iraq, correlating Nan was much longer.
