Well hell.... I was right by there yesterday
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0759b545f9.jpg

And the Bethany Tpk was a real fun road. That whole last leg below Binghamton was v fun.

Griff 09-12-2020 11:52 AM

You were headed right for us until you took a wrong turn in Bingo!

Griff 09-12-2020 11:58 AM

RT12 can be cop infested. Utica to Binghamton is nice review of shuttered factory towns but they have AHL hockey and Clinton (Hamilton College) was Hockeytown USA a few years back. I guess you did a low level hockey tour of NYS.

lumberjim 09-12-2020 01:34 PM

Guess you've seen this a time or two. I plunked my ass down on the hill in front of the spiral stone area and had a nice rest. Now I'm at a roadside bar listening to two old guys play Neil Young and the dead. Not so bad. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d37a46fcee.jpg

lumberjim 09-15-2020 07:53 PM

I am almost done with the back steps. Yesterday I burned the grain of the new wood with a torch to make it look like the old wood. Smelled great.

Since then I've had a pleasant camp fire smell in my nose. My nose gets smells stuck, to where every smell that registers will smell like it. But I'm wondering if it's that, or if I can just smell California burning.

Anyway, smells nice.

monster 09-15-2020 08:05 PM

Must be horrendous for you when someone farts

Undertoad 09-15-2020 08:12 PM

Being able to smell means you don't have the vid

Yeah, there ain't no sharks named Eugene.

It's a dolphin in shark's clothing

We're getting married. You knew that, but it's 29 days away now.

We were not sure if we would wait a year and do a mid sized affair, or do a back yard wedding this year, but we decided to go ahead this year. My mom is slipping mentally, and her dad is fighting cancer (winning so far) and there are tax and health insurance benefits....

Anyway. We hired the tents, wedding planner and caterer this week. It's gonna be small... Like 25 family and close friends. I bought a new suit, Amanda bought a dress, ordered my ring and we hired a house cleaner, too. Lots of money flowing out, but this is how it goes.

I need to lose 10 pounds. I will.

And we have no idea about what to do for a honeymoon.

glatt 10-01-2020 09:02 PM

I’m happy for you kids. Congratulations.

Good, it's about time she made an honest man out of you.
You know how lucky you are to have found her. :lovers:

There are plenty of instructional videos on the net, but where to do it is a huge problem.
Hey, that can wait if necessary, the getting hitched is the best part.
Well that and the happily ever after. :thumb2:

monster 10-02-2020 12:52 AM

I want to come and wave from a distance like a street urchin peering in through the window of the Baker's shop.......

monster 10-02-2020 12:54 AM

Will Halloween costumes be involved?

(oh and this news made me happy :) )

That's in the running....

Thanks y'all! Some day we'll have a regular party and get some locals to come....

Seems like everything you hear begins with, "in these unprecedented times... or uncertain times..... "

All times are unprecedented. All times are uncertain. Always have been. It's the only real constant.

Clodfobble 10-02-2020 10:47 AM

Make sure you post pictures afterward!

lumberjim 10-02-2020 01:36 PM

Might could set up a Zoom on a tablet or my chrome book, and set it where those interested could observe the actual ceremony live....

monster 10-02-2020 02:56 PM

ooooh!

lumberjim 10-02-2020 08:53 PM

Yeah... I think I may do that.

Also, back stairs are 95% done.

They had shitty carpet on them when we moved in. Carpet deleted, we had issues.

monster 10-02-2020 08:56 PM

nice, but you're only supposed to carry her over the threshold, not up the stairs!

lumberjim 10-02-2020 09:09 PM

I filled the gaps in the landing with wedges of 1 yr old home depot pine (at Amanda's suggestion{or so she claims, at least} ), and chiseled and sanded... Then I stained the new wood with dark Trans Tint dye and water, cured. Then I sanded that back. That left the hard grain dark and the soft grain light. Then, fire.

I torched the hard grain, and lightly sanded that back. A coat of old antique maple Trans Tint and some mixing of the amber to level the color... I gave the older wood 2 coats of the maple and a jot of amber..... Got them close enough to not be noticeably different.

Then 2 coats of triple thick poly, steel wool satin finish.
We're pleased with the result.

lumberjim 10-02-2020 09:44 PM

Oh yeah. And we painted. Amanda did the risers and side trim, and removed the railing. I sanded and painted them, and cut and sized and shaped and painted the 27 little side moldings... I just have to nail the trim down, and Amanda will clean up the little bleed throughs of paint on the steps.

That's the other 5%

Clodfobble 10-02-2020 10:04 PM

Those stairs are gorgeous!

this is true.

Griff 10-03-2020 07:07 AM

Great work!

lumberjim 10-03-2020 07:47 AM

Thanks! I also fixed the creaking with diagonal trim nails placed strategically. They're nice and quiet for now.

Griff 10-03-2020 07:58 AM

Cool, creaky stairs can get on our nerves.

xoxoxoBruce 10-04-2020 02:51 AM

Outstanding, I've got 10 years worth of old Fine Woodworking magazines you can have because it looks to me like you're in that league. :notworthy

I didn't know you and Amanda were carpenters.
I know, you've only just begun.
I'll let myself out... :bolt:

Happy Monkey 10-05-2020 01:35 PM

Ditto on the nice stairs.

monster 11-01-2020 03:44 PM

So cocks shrink as you go south? Or is that just an extremely large car?

footfootfoot 11-01-2020 08:34 PM

Know it? I wrote it!

lumberjim 11-02-2020 09:13 AM

He's a normal size cock.... Just some shrinkage from the angle of that shot....

He is always there to greet us when we land.

Hooked up with a couple people we met last time we were down here. Captain Kelly invited us to come hang on his boat.

After that party, we went to schooners wharf and closed that bar.

The girl in white got all 3 bartenders to pose with their hair down for the first time ever.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...135af4e18a.jpg

She's an interesting cat. Hoping to play guitars with her tonight.

We stumbled to the... Tattoo and something... bar after that, watched two chicks tussle on the street (so fun) then somehow woke up in the right bed.

I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant
