One more - this one is not a track, though. It's a Fire in the Booth pre-written freestyle rap followed by one of the most moving pieces of poetry I've heard.
He's also a self-published and highly respected historian and scholar and founder of the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company * the intermittent explosions are the DJ registering his approval :p |
Pre-written freestyle?:eyebrow:

I figured there was some difference in definition of 'freestyle'.
|
Most of these guys can also do the other kind of free style. Certainly the older ones.
Kano, one of the original grime artists did a really good Fire in the Booth that wasn't off the top of his head, but was penned like an hour or so before recording on a last minute booking I really love this. I get maybe 70-80% of what he's saying, but he sounds awesome. |
Percussionists...
|
that was quite enjoyable, thank you!

Percussionists...
*plus a little surf guitar* Oh yeah. |
I'm going to have to get away from media for a few hours. This expresses where I'm at with society right now.

Which video is ppv?
|
When I put up Limey's video, the first time I tried to play it they said equipment problems try later. The second time it said must pay to watch. The third time it worked.
Griff's is working now. |
Yep, Griff's vid plays now.

Things are getting more difficult.

Youtube was having some issues earlier...

I may have linked it before, but no song represents autumn more than this one. The Clientele, Bonfires on the Heath.
The sparse slide guitar wailing, the simple piano here and there, it's all just so amazingly in place. Allmusic says about the whole album "...the most perfect autumnal English pop record imaginable... a feeling of melancholy and quiet but also a pastoral peacefulness that is very soothing" that applies to this track 110% |
Cordell Jackson, the rocking granny was playing rock & roll guitar before anyone invented the term. Being a grandma she naturally could cook. :haha:

Go Grandma, go.

Harrison = authentic

I came across this video shortly after we watched Sharp Objects on HBO.
Both are entrancing, both feature street skaters. |
Stylish, good stuff.

Dorothy Dandridge and Paul White strut their stuff in A ZOOT SUIT, an engaging Soundie from 1942, made for a coin operated jukebox called Panoram.

Appropriate time of year for this I think:

Vintage Trouble
Saw them on Austin City Limits, and they had a sound like 60s soul, Stax-type shit. And they were rocking it. I haven't found anything by them as good, but this is close: :jig: |
This one is very Land of 1000 Dances-ish:

That's one of your oldest blues tunes, right there.

A bit of a departure here...
The rap here is catchy but the video makes it great. The lyrics are tough but no cop killing and the like. Lyrics - X Gon' give it to ya I first heard this on a youtube video background for about 5 seconds. It was so catchy I went to search it out. It's looking like I'm 10 years behind the curve on DMX. |
War - Cisco Kid, on the Midnight Special, remember the Midnight Special? Loved that show.
