It was Beef Bourguignon on buttered spaghetti, but I forgot to take a pic. It was teh yum, though.

Spexxvet 12-21-2011 10:16 AM

Italian Hoagie, mayo, sweet peppers, no onions.

jimhelm 12-30-2011 12:53 PM

omg

4 of us went in on a 2 regular pies for $20 deal.... These things are thick.... ah mazing.

Sundae 12-31-2011 07:12 AM

Them's not pies..!

Look yummy though.
From the pictures I can't get it out of my head that they are quiches - I've never seen pizza that deep. Hence pies, I guess.

jimhelm 12-31-2011 12:27 PM

we call pizzas pies ovah heah. pizza pie. pie.

and the eyetalians call pizza sauce gravy. weirdos

Clodfobble 12-31-2011 01:48 PM

Keep in mind that by "over here," jim means Pennsylvania. No one in the south calls a pizza a pie.

In Ohio we say, "Wanta go get some pizza?"

In Jersey my cousins say, "Wanna get a slice?"

plthijinx 12-31-2011 02:47 PM

i've currently got a Turducken in the oven. never cooked one before but have had other products from Hebert's, (pronounced "aybears") i highly recommend them. from their stuffed quail all the way to their stuffed de-boned chickens. this place knows what they're doing!

Sundae 01-01-2012 05:42 AM

Philthy, that sounds like a GOOD PLACE.
Can't get my head round the pronunciation though!

We're having a FOUR bird roast, but it comes from a supermarket and will probably be dry.
Sorry Mum, it's true, you overcook meat.

Last night I made a ham pie with leek, onion, potato, leftover ham, double cream (!) and mustard. Bloody good it was, even if I say so myself. We;;, I was following a recipe mostly.

And then cherries in kirsch with buckwheat pancakes and Cherry Gran Marnier cream for dessert. I spoiled them like an Ambassador.

Quoting myself, but it is still true.

D R Y

Just finished it.
It was dry.

Ate after my family, but no gravy left. I should have made some,
It might have been less dry, but not by much.

Also no yorkshire pudding (probably wasn't any) and no sausage in bacon (which there were - the greedy pigs) and no peas.

Overall - disappointed.

monster 02-17-2012 12:30 PM

Homemade veg, barley and bean soup. :)

It's kinda hot right now, though :(

bluecuracao 02-17-2012 02:34 PM

Leftover bacon meatloaf and roasted yellow squash from dinner last night. Also, some polenta from dinner 3 nights ago.

Aliantha 02-19-2012 09:36 PM

I had tuna, mayo and grated cheese mixed together.

I feel like I'm going to chunder now.

bbro 02-20-2012 05:09 PM

I had tacos! Yay!

Sundae 02-21-2012 06:53 AM

More dry crackers probably.
I might push the boat out and have some dry toast.

bbro 02-21-2012 08:33 AM

chicken, spinach and mozzarella panini sandwich and coleslaw (that I attempted to make out of a failed recipe. I hope it tastes ok :/)

wolf 02-21-2012 12:53 PM

Didn't feel like making a sandwich or mixing some fruity yogurt or thawing anything, cooked up a mess of spaghetti. And yes, I mean mess literally. Sauce splotches on various parts of the stove from when I pulled the lid off the sauce and meatballs to stir. And yes, I know that meant the heat was too high, I prefer an aggressive simmer when I'm in a hurry.

On the upside, I now have four further meals in the fridge.

Aliantha 02-21-2012 05:24 PM

We're having chicken, salad and a lemon pesto fettuccine for lunch.

I'm going to my cousins house. I'm supplying the pasta. She's doing the chicken and salad.

Trilby 03-19-2012 10:38 AM

A Rueben without the rye.

Yummy.

jimhelm 03-19-2012 01:55 PM

coinci...wha...

anyway.

I have a 'Jewish Hoagie' from Bread&Bagels.

like a Reuben on a hoagie roll. Huckin Fawesome.

Trilby 03-19-2012 05:05 PM

What's on a Jewish hoagie?-details!

infinite monkey 03-19-2012 05:58 PM

I don't know from rueben. I don't like sauerkraut. I know now that sauerkraut is on a rueben.

(I've told this story before, but I don't care.) So I'm working at the bar/restaurant at lunch, a hundred years ago, and some old ladies came in. I'm cooking, and one of them had a rueben. She commented that it was awfully 'hot.'

Hey, sauerkraut and horseradish look the same to me when they're in tupperware containers, and as I don't eat either and wouldn't eat a rueben if you paid me, I didn't know. Ooops! It was very embarrassing!

bbro 03-19-2012 07:37 PM

Tomorrow is going to be lasagna soup! I am in a soup mood, so I will be having stuffed green pepper soup, too. I just realized that I am going out on Wednesday and I am disappointed it won't be eating the stuffed pepper soup then - lol

Clodfobble 03-20-2012 10:34 AM

I keep making almond cookies for the kids and then eating them all myself.

Today's lunch seriously needs to be something other than cookies. Seriously.

Sundae 03-20-2012 05:06 PM

Wednesday is roast dinner day at school.
I usually partake.

Which is ridiculous really.
I have approx 20 mins to get all the children down to the hall and served, then scoff a roast dinner and dessert, then get to Craft Club. I leave Craft Club early in order to set up Friendship Club for Mars.

Thing is, the only session I have any influence over is Friendship Club.
And as it's difficult to find a regular free room for it, I could justify changing days. But inside I'd know it was really just to make things easier for myself, so I'd best not. Also Craft Club finishes after the Easter holidays (children start dropping out when the weather gets warmer) so I'll be less rushed soon.

Tomorrow is.... oh. Just looked it up. Roast chicken.
I might save myself the trouble - not a big fan.
Then again - cheesecake for dessert :yum:

The beef salami was exquisite. all crusted around the edges with black pepper, and love... and their bread is lightly crusty, yet fluffy, and powdered with flour. It was hella messy to eat, and I could only do half... but I had the other half today. Well worth the $7.59.

Not sure where to post this, and I don't want to stay in my own thread all the time so I wouldn't seem so egotistical. Here are the yorkshire pudding I made this afternoon. Had it for lunch. :D I promised Sundae that I would post up pictures, but I did such a lousy and messy job that it is too embarrassing. I will post up pix of the process next time. And now, here is the end results. Oh yeah, as you noticed, some don't look right. I poured too much batter for the first half of the pan. When I realized so, I spooned some out to fill the remaining slots. Also, the oil in the pans were supposed to be smoking hot, but I became impatient. When I saw a hint of smoke comes out from one or two slots, I poured the batter in. Oh well, until next time. :D

Psst: Sundae, my sister said the flavor tasted familiar. After a few pieces, she said it tasted like unfilled cream puffs. Anyways, I like it. Thank you very much!!!

monster 05-19-2012 06:27 PM

They don't look too bad, Lola, but where's the gravy? You can't eat them without beef gravy.

Lunch was Panera Steak and White Cheddar hot panini and it was delicious. :yum: (Maybe only the second time I've eaten at Panera)

Lola Bunny 05-20-2012 12:28 PM

Hihi...no gravy. I know, I ate them in a very unconventional way. Still good to me. :D

Max and I went and had sushi for lunch today. It was nice and he thought the train was pretty cool.

Um, kind of. The flavors are good but I just don't think I like the quinoa as a pasta replacement. I prefer it as a side dish I think. I actually might try and use the recipe but with pasta instead. About to post over on the cookbook thread.

There are a couple other recipes on that site that I want to make.

Lola Bunny 05-23-2012 01:57 PM

I saw your post in the other thread. Thanks!

Aliantha 08-14-2012 10:00 PM

I had a pregnant lady craving for kfc today and proceeded to stuff myself. Now I feel sick.

Somebody shoot me now.

Sundae 08-15-2012 05:03 AM

I had a KFC the other week, when everythnig was going wrong.
I thought it would cheer me up.
It didn't. That's me done on the KFC front for another few years...

(how come in the adverts it looks both fluffy and juicy but in real life it is both greasy and greasy?)

DanaC 08-15-2012 05:14 AM

Yeah. I've gone off KFC . Now and again I'll forget about the last experience and get suckered in by promises of succulent chicken and secret herbs and spices and bam! I'm sitting in a half-arsed excuse for a seating area, eating greasy chicken in overdone coating, and trying not to look at anything too closely.

bbro 08-15-2012 10:10 AM

I forgot half my lunch at home. Now I have to figure out where to get something :(

I like Bolfspeef. I shall name my son that.

This is what I had.
Yes I know they're not really American. But they were on sale. And they are both crunchy and hot i' truth, and that's doing what it says on the packet.

I expect to blaze a fiery trail later this evening...

Marinated chicken wings in an American style hot chilli crunchy coating

Take the Heat...

Born in the bars of the USA, these feisty American hot chilli Wings are smothered in a crunchy coating, seasoned with punchy paprika and black pepper, culminating in a lingering capsicum frutescens chilli finish.

Some say that Americans like to do things bigger and that includes flavour You are sure to find these wings packed full of big hearted flavours the USA would be truly proud of.

Embrace the taste of the American dream with these tongue tingling hot chilli wings.

bbro 08-22-2012 09:08 AM

I have a pork chop and corn, but we are being forced into a company picnic, so I don't know what I will be eating there. It's not until 3pm, so I don't know if we are expected to eat lunch or dinner. PS - I hate that I have to go

Undertoad 08-22-2012 11:48 AM

This saddens me in two ways. One, that all this 'Mericuh marketing is going on. We did some cool things and inventing the Buffalo-style hot wing is one of them, but all this USA USA nonsense, I mean, shouldn't it go towards the iPhone and not some horrible appetizer-turned-meal?

And two, the chance that this product actually resembles the original is near zero.

Sundae 08-22-2012 12:02 PM

Hey don't take it to heart.
The other two items in the range are "Italian" Pesto Chicken Bites and "Indian" Masala Chicken Goujons.

There are many food crimes committed in American under the name of Italian cookery.
Ditto in this country under the name of Indian cookery.
Don't think for a second the USA should be immune!

Although I do love an American-Style Diner. Because if it's licensed it will sell Long Island Iced Tea. Ooh I could suck that up through a straw! Oh, I mean... I have.

As a side note, one of my favourite ad campaigns of all time was by the company that made Phileas Fogg tortilla chips. They had a whole range of "world" snacks. The adverts showed authentic settings for each and then a voiceover at the end said in a very scholarly voice, "Pay attention! Phileas Fogg snacks are made in Medomsley Road, Consett."

Here is one of my favourites. If something I come across has the right syllables and cadence I am still occasionally moved to sing it to the tune of Punjab Airways...

NB - the wording in this advert differs slightly from my description above. Some definitely said Pay Attention though.

Undertoad 08-22-2012 12:21 PM

Oh 'dae, I can't wait until I win the lottery, and I am your guide as we whisk away to try all the actual 'Muricun local foods of at least the East Coast.

And I can't wait to read your travelogue on it, because your travelogues are the best.

I am reasonably sure this will happen in our lifetimes.

Sundae 08-22-2012 12:28 PM

Am currently reading Confederates in the Attic (must remember to tell Bri it arrived!) and am so hungry for America. I'll try anything once. Even Country Gravy.

Thanks for the compliment on travelogues. Means a lot.

Clodfobble 08-22-2012 03:03 PM

But don't let him try to feed you Mexican food, Sundae. You'd have to come down here after you're done with the East Coast tour. You would just melt for both real Mexican and real TexMex, I know it.

Undertoad 08-22-2012 03:44 PM

That's only right. I would cover:

Montreal: Crepes de jombon et fromage
Maine: Lobsters and/or proper lobster rolls
New Hampshire: Polly's Pancake House with many maple syrup products
Boston: New England clam chowdah
New York City: Deli sandwiches of pastrami and corned beef; street vendor hot dog; cheesecake
Philadelphia: Cheesesteak; soft pretzel; water ice
OC Maryland: Crabs banged open with a mallet

Do they have Popeyes there yet? I look at the bottom of a KFC tub and see about a spoonful of oil, I never see any oil in a box of Popeyes chicken.

BTW, check out my What's for Breakfast post. SInce it's before noon, it still qualifies.

Not that I'm aware of. New franchises tend to start in London, and I've never seen any there.

Every morning I pop a couple of grapes from the fridge into my mouth. Naughty, because I don't buy them. They remind me of the William Carlos William poem, which previously always made me shudder (even though I liked the wording) because it is about plums, which I have an aversion to anyway. Let alone all cold and hard.

Grapes on the other hand have thinner skin and are truly so sweet and so cold.

I had pretzels this morning. Breakfast and lunch really.
I made Mum a birthday cake and ate too much of the icing. I tried a white chocolate ganache and it was a disaster so I felt obliged to scoff the scrapings.

Clodfobble 09-03-2012 03:26 PM

Sundae, at least someone bought them. My dad used to give me three grapes each time we went to the grocery store when I was a toddler. "One for each hand, and one for your mouth." Years later I was horrified to realize I'd been complicit in dozens of crimes.

Sundae 09-03-2012 03:33 PM

Oh Clod, you shocker.
Did he also take you into the changing rooms and feed you the packaged sandwiches, leaving the plastic under a pile of discarded clothes?

Perhaps give you a little sippy from an open carton of apple juice until you'd sippied it all dry then hid the evidence behind the shampoo?!

I know that game Missus.

And you know where it ends up? In a liquor store, drunk as a skunk, pissing your pants in the middle of the aisle.

Think on, lady.

Clodfobble 09-03-2012 05:46 PM

I just don't have the heart to tell my dad that he's led me to a life of liquor store urination. It would crush him so. He always tried to do right by us, you know, set a good example--you pee on the wall outside the liquor store dearie, on the wall outside!

I'm so ashamed.
