I use a photoshop program to enhance some of the colors, but I do it by hand and not the auto program. The butterfly though is a straight shot. The ocean mostly has the light evened out as it was a very bright day. Elspode showed me a few tips on the color enhancements, but I have branched out with shots like the Faery one.

I particularly am fond of Georgia O'Keefe's work and love to focus on the close up of the flowers. If I can get a printer to work I plan on a photo series with the water lilies and the plastic looking flowers. I have ideas in my head of incoorperating paper making and batik work with the photos, but still haven't spent the time yet making it happen.

Right now dealing with my ex husband to be/yet still partner is consuming every ounce of creative energy I have outside the photography. Thank the Goddess for Elspode who is my link to sanity, peace and love with out drama. Sooo looking forward to this weekend, will get some more great pictures I hope (if someone remembers to put my memory card back in my camera lol) ;)

Elspode 08-28-2008 06:27 PM

I plan to bring the laptop to camp, so even if I forget, it will still be in there when we arrive.

Elspode 08-28-2008 06:28 PM

BTW...does it sound as unlikely to everyone else as it does to me for me to be referred to as someone's "link to sanity"?

Ooh, Niagara! I was there last summer! My photos aren't as nice as yours, though.

Sundae 08-30-2008 08:56 AM

All gorgeous as usual, thank you.

Ibs, sorry to lower the tone, but how do you sit down in jeans that low slung without your fanny popping out? Really? I mean even standing up you must be able to see her arse crack?

But the second one is SO beautifully lit - wonderful.

skysidhe 08-30-2008 09:19 PM

wow, you're a good photographer Ibram.

Saw this amphibious vehicle while on vacation in Maine. Check out the guy on the rear deck for scale. It carries large loads to the islands. You can drive a full sized dump truck up the ramp and take it to one of the islands.

ZenGum 09-02-2008 10:21 PM

Hate to be paying the gas bill on that monster.
On the other hand, I'd like to have one and convert it to a luxury mobile home/yacht. By that time I wouldn't have to worry about mileage*.

*actually, 1.61 kilometerage

Elspode 09-03-2008 09:13 PM

Jeez...that's pretty cool. Wonder what vintage that thing is?

TheMercenary 09-03-2008 09:42 PM

I did a little looking in to it when I got back to civilization. Apparently they were built in the late 50s for the Army and saw some action in Vietnam. The Army got rid of them a few years ago and one private charter company in Maine bought a couple to ferry big stuff to various islands. This one has apparently been used to supply the building materials for the huge house Chief Justice Roberts is building on an island near there.

Thanks. I was amazed by this thing. All four wheels are steerable. It's got dual props. It was clearly a working vessel that was well maintained.

Elspode 09-04-2008 11:45 AM

Maintenance on that thing must be a *bitch*, because it looks like nothing more than a bigass truck with a boat hull. I'm guessing there's some real interesting bearing seals and such on that beastie.

Shawnee123 09-04-2008 12:09 PM

I wonder what the inside looks like?

glatt 09-04-2008 12:26 PM

Well, here's the company's website, so you can see it from the top.
And here's a bunch of pictures on flickr by jkirlin of one getting stuck on a soft sand bar and the guys waiting for the tide to come back in to float them off.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/75/17...77dc41833a.jpg

And this website has some information on these LARC-LXs.

Elspode 09-04-2008 12:33 PM

Impressive machine. Company website shows it hauling two excavators...

The Wikipedia link has a photo of one giving birth.

Own one for yourself:

Better idea of the size of these monsters.

you let it crawl on you?!

BigV 09-16-2008 12:51 PM

Yeah.. of course. I wanted to get a good close up shot, and I didn't have time to lay in the grass for it. When I picked him up, he curled into a ball, but then relaxed and started crawling around. The white balance on this shot is crap, but I do like the sharpness. And he was really cool looking!

glatt 09-16-2008 01:00 PM

Well, it makes a good picture. I like.

Kris 09-16-2008 01:50 PM

So I stopped the car, snapped a pic, and this is what I got:

I kinda dig it.

BigV 09-16-2008 02:07 PM

That qualifies as a neat picture.

You're really pacing yourself (wrt posting), aren't you?

glatt 09-16-2008 02:24 PM

well done Kris. I like it.

Campfires are one of my favorite subjects. That's a creepy face, I see fire faces too. This one looks like he's in a great deal of pain.

TheMercenary 09-17-2008 07:55 PM

I am all about the fire.

I built this one in my backyard. We spend a lot of time here, esp as the temp cools.

Dang, Merc, that's sweet!
Kinda looks like it just needs a log cabin to be built around it now.

The first two are the regular shots. After that I got bored and started having fun with the picture. I loved the colors of the last one. Rainbow pictures are hard to take.

xoxoxoBruce 09-21-2008 01:13 AM

Lovely, but where's all the naked pagans? ;)

I read on Boing Boing about a kind of neat idea. Taking digital pictures through the viewfinder of an old camera. I happened to have an old Kodak Duaflex camera that I bought at a yard sale about 30 years ago and have kept locked up in a trunk full of old "treasures." So I tried it out yesterday. It's harder than I expected. You need to be able to focus on the viewfinder from a certain distance and my Panasonic DMC-FZ7 can't do that. So I dug out my old Nikon Coolpix 950 with it's awesome macro capabilities and was able to get a decent shot.

It's fun, but I wouldn't say you make prize winning quality images. Just fun retro looking ones.

Undertoad 09-21-2008 01:20 PM

How is it that you and I wound up buying the exact same cameras? (I sold the 950 to Kitsune, for a project that apparently didn't pan out)

glatt 09-21-2008 01:26 PM

Well, actually, only the first one was a coincidence. I copied you on the second one. I was shopping for a camera and you posted about how great the Panasonic is. (And I happen to agree.)

Undertoad 09-21-2008 01:28 PM

Oh! Forgot about that. Anyway, nice!

Trilby 09-21-2008 01:46 PM

Glatt! I can see your house from here!

Killer pics, tree fae, very cool.

Yeah -- it wouldn't eat memory cards big enough for time lapse (camera would enter a race condition, lock up, and overheat after 15-30 frames on a >512Mb card). The 950 still lives on, however. It is still on the shelf and being held for another idea since the wiring for remote trigger and external power supply are still good.

Interesting view from my deck. I really never noticed it before until I started playing with the zoom in my camera.

Maybe its just one of those things you try not to see.

HungLikeJesus 10-18-2008 05:24 PM

I like how the zoom compresses the scene and makes everything appear jumbled together.

Merc, how come the pics you post of Mrs Merc's lovely bits are so wonderfully large, but most of the other stuff is really small and has pixel sizes on it?

TheMercenary 10-29-2008 02:48 AM

I was still tying out how best to post pic on my image hosting site before my ability to host her titties. Since then I have been schooled. :D
