Uhh ermmm... I could check it out for tomorrow... Arround 3€ maybe without any case...

blue 02-23-2004 02:53 PM

Why not put him (her) on the list, sandwiched between 2 who would send/receive mp3s. Oh wait, I'm going nowhere with this, that would break the chain, damnit there must be a way.

I'll be back when I get a chance to flush all the work crap outta my brain.

Having worked for the post office I can tell you that mail to Europe can be tricky as it may take 2 weeks to get there and another 2 weeks to get back. There by messing up the rotation. BUT I don't want to leave anyone out so maybe if people are worried about mailing things to Europe then we can all just burn an extra CD for Pi and send it to him? I don't mind burning an extra one so he can enjoy the music as well.

Postage to Pi would be about $2.40 for airmail (calculated with a padded envelope, CD, and case) which takes 4-7 days but can often be delayed by the country it it being sent to's Customs office.

But I am cool no matter what is decided. Just trowing food for thought out there.

ok i changed the order one last time.......now ( barring any premature ejacul...no , ejections) whoever adds on goes to the end of the list......plus i wasnt thrilled about bieng next to jinx.....you'd all get 2 similar cds in a row as we have approx the same tastes.

DVD's are also compatible, once you apply a patch to remove the region code.

no stupid hollywood marketroid is going to tell me I can't watch a DVD I buy anywhere I damn choose.

Happy Monkey 02-23-2004 05:16 PM

That depends on the player. :(

Syc...are you pretty sure that your lady isn't a witch?

LOL, well I remember once that a self-proclaimed warlock said that he "sensed" that I could be a White Witch.

But, I like the idea of using whatever powers I may have for evil if I have to *evil grin*:D

It has largely been my experience that anyone referring to themselves as a Warlock is either too stupid to know what the word really means, or, if they do know its legitimate meaning, that they are people you need to stay the hell away from because they're crazy.

But yeah, there's much to be said for being a traditional witch and not a Wiccan. Not for *me*, mind you, but for some...

Maybe, but not necessarily. People who call themselves Warlocks tend to fancy themselves as bad boys, and to consider all others as their playthings. Unfortunately, they're all wacko, too, so there's no real knowing just what their intentions are beyond trying to recall where their Lithium bottle went.

lumberjim 02-23-2004 08:07 PM

my sister used to date a "warlock"......or a "pagan" one of those biker gangs guys, ya know......and he was indeed a bad ass.....till my dad made him cry.

Elspode 02-23-2004 10:17 PM

Strangely, LJ, those three things don't necessarily go together...:D

wolf 02-24-2004 12:22 AM

We may have to be very careful about sending stuff across international borders ... there may be some reg about copied music.

If there were a viable way to do this legally by email, anyone could play. hmmm. Anyone with broadband.

blue 02-24-2004 08:00 AM

Is this just about ready to roll?

Final list LJ?

Separate thread for I sent it/I got it/everyone forward their last CD today, etc.?

Separate or same thread for comments? Or are we supposed to include a printed form that was mentioned earlier?

Sounds like some are doing priority mail, seems like overkill to me (plus I can't stand going to the fucking post office), I can just throw in an envelope here at work and it's on the way. Regular mail should we just send the friday before?

Any other issues not resolved? Is everyone in pretty much done with their discs?

lumberjim 02-24-2004 08:19 AM

The list will close on friday the 27th at 6pm est. 2 weeks is plenty of time, so mail in whatever maner you feel confident with. if you do not receive your disc as scheduled, pm the sender. in the event that a disc is lost or damaged, we will need to get it replaced asap, so keep your song lists available on your computer for that eventuality.

on the 27th, i will create a thread in lumberjim's office for all related comments, reviews, send reminders etc, so this doesnt clutter up the main area. i'll make it sticky so you can always find it easily. the first post will contain the user manual and the list.

i will attempt to track who should have who's disc there also.
i'd say this should be limited to the contiguous US...sorry, Pi. and other international members. we will have to play by ear any drop outs or other problems that arise.

Mine's done. I'm still working on cover art. UT is one lucky sumbitch, as he gets it first. I am concerned, howvere that he might wear it out, it's so good. I was bragging on it to H_P, and now he'll have to wait a good while for it. sorry, alan, i know this is probably tough on you.....be strong.

I am SO sure that UT is just chompin' at the bit to get an anthology of Zamfir's greatest hits, Boxcar Willie live from the Bakersfield VFW, Polka - The Lost Tunes, Slim Whitman Seranades and 70's Sitcom Theme Songs. Oh, Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

:)

blue 02-24-2004 09:14 AM

Hey now, the 70s theme songs & polka sound quite good actually.

Shouldn't this be done through PM, I mean does everyone really need to know that one person received their CD?

A comments forum I think would be fun.

I for one would like to include a comment form with my CD's whether or not there is one online. It makes a cool souvenir.

that's a great idea, whoever thought of it

like the balloon we all released in 5th grade. enclose a sheet of paper with x amount of lines ( x being how many people are on the list) and when we get our cds back, we can read peoples thoughts on it.

i'll include that in the users manual when i do the final cut

OnyxCougar 02-24-2004 02:02 PM

What if people's thoughts are more than a line long?

lumberjim 02-24-2004 02:14 PM

i was thinking we'd do the actual reviews online, but a nice little blurb in the written hand might be nice to retain by the creator of the disc. let's make that an optional item?

how about if we all just agree to forward AT LEAST what we received with the cd, and we can add to it (BE REASONABLE AND CONSIDER THAT FACT THAT IT WILL NEED TO BE SENT ALONG THE REST OF THE WAY) what ever we want ( AS LONG AS IT IS LEGAL TO MAIL) to the creator.

sound good?

hot_pastrami 02-24-2004 03:32 PM

Too bad we can't have full, open discussion on the CDs. I think that would be neat.

Can vBulletin (the Cellar's Message Board software) password protect a thread? If so, and we wanted to allow full discussion of each CD, we could have a unique thread for each CD, each password-protected. Then, we'd write each password on the appropriate CD, so no one could access the thread without at least receiving the CD.

Probably too much work though, eh? It would probbaly need a new forum for all those threads, then all those passwords to manage... I dunno. It sounded good in my head, but now that I type it out, I realize it's probbaly more effort than it's worth.

How about we create a forum for each CD and label the forum properly. Allow discussion of that CD only in its forum. Then the people that want to be surprised just avoid going into that forum. We don't have to password protect it, we're all adults, right?

lumberjim 02-24-2004 04:07 PM

no, the main reason i didnt want to name the songs was because of potential trouble with some particular artists' company that somehow came accross this site and realized we were sharing their music.....

ya know?

if it is kept general, i think less attention would be paid.......or maybe dar just has me paranoid?

I have a friend that used to always exchange mix tapes over Usenet. But times have changed, and I have to agree with your paranoia LJ.

How hard would it be to create a password protected forum?

Undertoad 02-24-2004 04:23 PM

This is the solution: we can have a hidden forum and link it in from somewhere else. That's what the archives is. I then set up the forum as restricted and only available to the 20 cd exchange users. Google can't get in.

This also limits all other cellar users, which might not be good (exclusivity) so we should have a handshake agreement not to talk about anything not music-xchange related in there.

first rule of cd club don't talk about cd club

Elspode 02-24-2004 04:33 PM

I don't have to make soap from human fat, do I?

Along with your cd, send your detached non-dominant hand.

Everyone in the chain will get a chance to shake it, and you get it back in a few weeks.

SteveDallas 02-24-2004 04:51 PM

After we reach the end of the cycle and each of us has our own CD back in hand, will we be required to post a video of the CD being physically destroyed? :shotgun:

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I recreated my mix, as the first one I made was not to my satsifaction. It was a little too jarring. The new one is better, but not autobiographical like the first was. I can't wait to do this! :D
