i'd take the kid but i've heard that intelligence is affected by genetics.

Guy: "Hey, my wife and I really want to have children, but she can't conceive. Would you let me knock you up, and you be surrogate mother for the baby for my wife and I. We'll pay you when the baby is born."

Many adoption processes are pretty much that. You can't directly pay the woman money for the baby, but you can pay for her housing, medical bills, food, anything that could conceivably improve the health and condition of your future child.
