Heh...guy is walking down the street when a prostitute asks him if he wants a blowjob.

"HALE no," he replies. "That would mess up my unemployment benefits."

The sun will burn, taxes will go up, and every Cellar Dwellar will fart.

Working on this one. Never had one looked at before, but this one's new and being very suspect. Can I go straight to a dermatologist, or is this one of those things where a GP has to refer me? What do they do, just cut the sucker out?

The need for a referral depends on your insurance.
In my experience they will cut anything and everything off your body that you let them, have the bits tested and then tell you it wasn't cancer but it was really close and you should come back frequently to have more stuff cut off because you are at risk.

That was exactly my experience too.

Technically our entire physical body is "pre-cancerous" if it isn't already cancerous.

Hold still while I-there we go; off to the lab.

Yep, I agree with you guys.

monster 01-06-2009 09:44 PM

pretty much what jinx said. my experience is that if you find the right doctor, they will trust your opinion on whether a dodgy-looking mole has changed or not. all changes are suspect. not all dodgy looking moles are.

get it checked out, but be prepared to ignore their advice if you disagree -especially the GP. they do tend to panic and/or want to cut. Wait for the specialist, however you get there. they do nothing but remove moles, so they're not as likely to be overly precutious in their desperation to use a knife or charge for a procedure. Unless you really like and trust your GP

Skin cancer is HUGE over here and anyone who has seen my pics will see I have that lovely pre spotted skin that is prone...plus my parents have had great chunks cut out.

My GP has the nifty little looking glass that he runs over my *spots* and body once a year to check to see if any are *bad*.

So far I havent had any removed, as he wont chop for the sake of chopping, but he would like to take the one near my eye away as it changes shape, as yet he hasnt forced the issue because its not showing any dangerous signs.

Got it removed today. I decided I didn't care if it was suspect or not, it itched and hurt and irritated me just by being there. The dermatologist told me she actually suspected most of it was scar tissue at this point (I develop keloid scars pretty easily.) I was surprised at the size of the crater she left though. Took four stitches to close it up, which was cool to watch. All the other times I've had stitches it was somewhere I couldn't see.
