The happiest cats on earth.
|
We saw a show about cats with that guy's house featured in it on Animal Planet the other day. Badger and I looked at each other and agreed to give it some serious consideration for our monsters. :D
ETA: the guy agreed that he had probably spent $50k on the project, and lowered his home's value by $50k as well. |
I don't have that kind of space to do something like that but wow would my cats love it! If you proceed, take pics! Oh, and this would be in your new house, right? :)
|
My parents were going to try something like that but then realized that it would never support the weight of their dogs... and it would have to

About twenty years ago, my ex and I had this silly ass cat named Pandora. We lived in a place that had a very narrow wall that separated our living room from the kitchen, and the wall terminated at the opening to the kitchen. This left a flat vertical surface about 4" wide, covered with a trim board. I used to do drugs in those days, and it occurred to me that I could make a hell of a cat thing there.
I built a roughly 2.5' long, 1' high, 1' deep box out of flakeboard, cut a hole in the bottom big enough for the cat to get through, and covered the whole thing in carpet remnant. Then, I wrapped carpet remnant around the exposed wall edge, and mounted the carpeted box up against the ceiling. The end result was a very integrated "cat tree"; a large wall area that the cat could literally climb up, and a box for her to enter, sleep in, or whatever. She used to actually climb up there and then *hang* by her front claws from the carpeted bottom of the box, like some goofy furry gymnast. It was awesome. |
I got home and my cats were waiting for me, tapping their little paws impatiently. I asked "wassup" and found that somehow they had seen this pic and wanted to know where their set-up was. Probably one of those rotten punk river cats down the street showed them. My cats are so naive.

I remember that picture of your cat, lj, and then I was thinking how my cats would love a beam like that to jump on.
How does (s)he get up there? (Sorry can't remember cat's name so not sure if it's male or female.) |
I want to see more of your house LJ.

Dennis jumps from the top of the cabinets onto the beam. He also climbs up the posts and gets stuck in the cubby's on the other side of the big cross beam, which you can kinda see here
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL162.../110177856.jpg That did make me lol nirvana... |
I looove your house, jinx! Nice wide planking on the floor.
|
It is a good looking house. You guys should do one of those youtube video tours like a few of us did a while back. Grifftopia was amazing too.
|
Thanks! If we ever clean it again maybe we will do a tour thing... it all needs to be painted too...
|
No, the rules for the house tour were no cleaning. Now let's see the house.
|
Ok, here are some outdated pictures. Most of the furniture and wall decorations have changed
|
Oh yeah...Dennis! I should have remembered.
I love your house, you guys. Old homes have such personality and character, and yours is just beautiful. |
I waaaaaaaaaaaant an old home.
Jinx, yours is gorgeous! |
do you want the 4" of water that is in the basement right now, too?
|
I'll trade you for my wobbly foundation and rusting, galvanized water pipes.
|
I love the look and feel of your house! It should have its own thread! :)

Yeah, I still want an old home with the wood work and big hallways and doorways and bunches of rooms and big kitchen. Sorry about your water. That sucks. We had that a few years back in ours, too. It was a 100 year flood that shouldn't have resulted in water in our basement. It came from the sewer system backing up. Gushed right out of the toilet...8 inches worth. Silver lining though...we have a totally new downstairs now. |

The loose part is immediately over a basement window in a window well. The rain just ran down the roof, down the side of the house, and into the basement. :smack: Quote:

What, Jebus really is on your bookcase?!
Loved that one Shawnee. I'll have to go chack myself now. |
Jesus called and said he wasn't going anywhere near my bookcase. Dust and that whole cleanliness next to godliness thing.
And my cats would eat him. |
